I remember seeing a documentary on this family. They have been bumping heads with the cartel for many years. They very well knew the risks and everyone was heavily armed. The government there lets its population defend itself and doesn’t help. The cartel takes care of its people and towns it operates in.

Bad place to live. I feel bad for the 6 children that died horrible deaths. These people want America to fight for them to be there. Thats a BAD idea as Mexico doesn’t care about the cartels.

Side note. Someone in Beto’s post posted something about democratic politicians being in the pocket of the cartels. They are driving open borders and arms restrictions. Sounds to me that is exactly what the cartels wants... just sayin...

I wouldn't even go to Mexico with Seal Team 6.

The only way the United States should wage war against the Mexican cartels is if Congress votes to go to war. Perhaps failed candidate never Trumper Mormon senator Romney could lead the charge in Congress.
While tragic, this is not an adventure that POTUS should unilaterally engage.

I'd go with a USMC Division.

Unless they were some breakaway sect, I doubt it, The LDS Church renounced polygamy 130 years ago. Mormons that I've met are very dedicated to evangelism and they very often move to other countries to spread the(ir) "Word".
I'm not sure which part you doubt?
2. That they were living in Mexico so they could have polygamous marriage.

Yes, the documentary is on youtube and other places. It is "The Mexican Mormon War" and is very informative. I thought I had posted that in an earlier post but the post was deleted. (Mods, it may be too much effort to do this, but if you delete one of my posts, you are welcome to PM me to let me know where I went wrong without upsetting me.) Perhaps my link wasn't allowed? Perhaps, I didn't complete my post.

In any case, the Mormons in Mexico have been in conflict with the cartels for many year with violence escalating for the past ten-or-so years. Two members of the LeBaron family were murdered in 2009. This latest incident is a continuation of this conflict.

Oh, well, Wikipedia will tell you more if you are curious. The documentary will tell you more and watching it is vitally important to understanding the context of this latest tragedy.

I don't have a problem with drone strikes. Neither do I have a problem with simply terminating cartel members with extreme prejudice as they either attempt to cross the border, or stage for any such attempt while still in Mexico. Sink their boats. Mortar their installations on the Mexican side of the border. Blow up their tunnels with the people still inside. Arm the BP with AT4s, Carl Gustavs, and Mark 19s. If we kill them on our side of the border, hang their carcasses on the border fence, just like you do with coyotes. But the only US boots on the ground presence inside of Mexico should be limited to small counter-terrorism teams (DEVGRU, Delta) whose sole mission is to acquire target intelligence and grid coordinates and then return to our side of the border.

The problem with boots on the ground intervention is that the cartels are too large and too well armed for operations limited to SOCOM to wipe them out. Wiping them out would require a full scale military intervention, and THAT would require a military occupation of ALL of Mexico. Otherwise, all that happens is you push the cartels south, away from our border, but not OUT of Mexico.

We are still disentangling ourselves from Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Syria. We should commit to a war on a 4th front? I don't think so.....and that is aside from the legal and diplomatic issues. Any incursion into Mexico without the express approval of and cooperation with the gov't of Mexico, would rightfully be seen as a hostile invasion by the rest of the world. Mexico is a LARGE land mass, with a LARGE population.

There is that; and as in Viet Nam, they all look alike. Who does one zap first? It's a Mexican problem. Build the wall!

Yes! A congressional declaration of war is required....if we are to get involved. Otherwise, let Pelosi, Schumer and Schiff lead the charge.

there are plenty of polygamous sects in various states, why not in Mexico?

IMHO, it is time to stop the sarcastic, funny saber rattling on this tragedy. Yes, the Mormon clan/cult/whatever, moved down there to escape what they perceived as some kind of oppression.

Yes, this was an internal matter between the Sovereign State of Mexico, and the statewide, epidemic drug cartel that they are facing.

YES! They should be eliminated! Yes! They should be dealt with, with predgidious, in the severest form. BUT.... Mexico is a sovereign country. It must be left up to them to solve their internal strife. IF they cannot solve that problem(which history has indicated, they are not able to do so), it is then incumbent upon Mexico's leadership, to request help(in what ever form you think is justified, EXCEPT, nuclear exchange), to eradicate the scourge that has plagued the good, kind, loving people of Mexico, for the past 3 or 4 decades.

To suggest that the U.S. send in the Marines? Yes! But ONLY by the request of the Mexican Government. Or any other form of Mexican requests for assistance. Come on folks. Get real.

The big problem is that there isn't a clear separation between the government forces and the cartels. You can't go anywhere without paying off a Federale. The cartels are armed with military weapons and armor supplied by the Mexican Army.

We can't ask our military to fight a war (aka police action) if we can't identify the enemy. The only people who seem willing to fight the bad guys are the Mormons, but they are paying dearly. If they could only get access to the same weapons that the bad guys do.

Tomahawks, we should start lighting them up with Tomahawks after every event... friendly casualties will be fewer than the people the cartels would have killed anyways. They will either eventually get the message or be blown up.

My prayers to the families who are dealing with this horrible tragedy.

Mexico desperately needs the RTKABA including Autodefensas.

I believe that solutions are not possible without ending the corrupt Mexican oligarchy, hunting down and eliminating all the cartels, and decriminalization of MJ. Not an easy process, but would make Mexico safer, more stable, and I think make the border much safer for everyone.
