Most of our Bills seem to be moving along. But HB 25, the guns and boats bill hasn't got a hearing and not even scheduled for the March 22 hearing. This is in the Criminal Jurisprudence committee Headed up by Straussian Chairman, Democrat Pete Gallego.

Nearest I can find he was B rated by the TSRA in 2006
Gallego is a Democrat apointed By a supposed Republican Strauss

They are moving other bills that have been submited long after this one was HB was prefiled before the session started.

Should we be making phone calls?

This might be the wake up call for those of us who thought we should give Strauss the benefit of the doubt.

This isn't just about folks going for a couple of hours chasing bass. This is also about folks homes and workplaces.

i think they are doing workplace parking lots and Campus first and don't expect guns in the middle of a lake to get much objections compared to the others. can't really say "I'm scared fishing and can't concentrate if I think a jetski might be armed" and "lake police response times to mass fishermen shooters is good"
The ones objecting will be so de-sensitized by current testimony, who cares if you hide one in the boat in the middle of nowhere by then it should easily pass....that's why I think it's low profile now but I doubt it's forgotten. ( I know a bunch of "unlicensed" kayakers might remind them, although most have a CHL so we can carry in boats anyway)

HB 25 just adds boats watercraft to the current law like the MPA Motorist Protection Act allowed car carry for unlicensed people

Should easily pass, I think they are hitting the "time consuming" ones first, and those will de-sensitize the anti-group who won't worry about fishermen because they never go outdoors because scary things are there. lions and tigers and bears oh my.

This isn't in the same committees though This is in Criminal Jurisprudence. This should be just an administrative thing... I'm concerned that with the big issues like Budgets and Redistricting an anti gunner can sort of let the these little bills slide without actually having a vote on record. This bill could have been put into any of the previous public meetings With extending the meeting hardly at all. First come first served and all that.

I know it's a different committee, but just like the Senate waited on their Campus Carry bill to see which of the numerous House Campus Carry bills went on ....

If they started with the easy ones like this, by the time Parking lots and schools came up, some would be hollaring "ENOUGH ALREADY" so, start with the hard ones, then by the time this gets there, everyone will say "may as well, they got guns everywhere else, who cares about some lone guy in the middle of a lake"? (Personally, being in a little plastic kayak with a CHL, I'd most want them to enforce the drunk boating laws on the books already. It's dangerous out there sometimes.) HB 25 is good, really doesn't affect the half million or so CHL carriers though, just the unlicensed people, who are probably either less vocal, (probably fewer unlicensed fishermen/water skiers care about it, or taking CHL classes now, or already have a CHL?)

It doesn't "fix" the USACE "problem". (But, may provide State law versus USACE test cases due to some poor unlicensed fellow obeying State Law on USACE lakes, reservoirs, rivers near USACE dams on USACE property, where firearms are prohibited by Federal law/regulation.)
