Employer parking lot HB681/SB321 - no news is good news?

#1

Post by artx »

Been pretty quiet lately on this one since HB681 was sent to House calendars (which schedules/doesn't schedule) the bill for a House floor vote - no news is good news?

I've faxed the House calendars committee - my counts show 11 out of 15 members are co-authors of HB 681, including the chair (Hunter). Met several folks this weekend at a match that said they have called/faxed as well. Unless reps author bills in order to fly under the radar, it seems like this would be moving...

Can the House calendars committee replace HB681 and send SB321(which already passed the Senate) to the floor?

I've been pretty antsy about this one. Maybe it is just the disappointment of the last couple of sessions.....

It's not on the local calendar or the general calendar. This might go on tbe supplemental calendar, which isn't up yet.

Couldn't find the definitive parking lot bill thread, so thought I'd tack this news blurb here:

NORTH DAKOTA: Employee Protection Bill Signed by Governor Dalrymple
===============
Today, April 15, House Bill 1438 was signed into law by Governor Jack Dalrymple. This bill will allow employees to lawfully store their firearms in locked personal vehicles on publicly-accessible parking lots without fear of being fired. HB 1438 will go into effect on August 1.

The house calendar committee is working hard to bury them.

HB681 passed the house B&I committee on 3/14 and is blocked by house calendar 5-6 weeks.

SB321 passed the senate on 3/15, passed the house B&I committee on 4/6, and now it's stuck like HB681.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

This is the same problem we had last year. Calling and faxing the members of the Calendars Committee didn't work then, and it doesn't appear to be working now. Are there any other avenues of attack we can pursue?

I have been going to the source.....I call, write and tell every Texas Republican Party worker THAT NEITHER MY COMPANY NOR I WILL BE GIVING ONE MORE DIME TO THEM until they represent me.

Then I tell them specifically what I am mad about. In this case, more of the Republicans not moving the plank forward. Sure lots of words but no action. Not one penny more.

Stop re-electing them.

More to the point - work actively to support the election of an alternative candidate. Support an alternative candidate with both campaign contributions and your time, volunteering with their campaign.
