and noticed that the actual form you send in to Winchester's rebate processor does not seem to specify that you have to buy the ammo from Academy.

Gooogle Winchester rebates. It doesn't matter where you purchase tha ammo. They have several promotions presently.

I have user several rebates using academy. I used one for a Ruger that the salesman did not know about. I got a extra mag and box of hp ammo 6 weeks
later from Ruger. Came in a box from a 3 party in S louie MO
I found the rebate slip on a counter and took it with me. The salesman was off in wonderland. He just had to walk me out the door to give me the pistol.
