Anybody ever actually shoot a Taurus PT111? 9mm, 12+1, double/single action, smooth trigger, good grip. $199! I bet they're selling like hotcakes. I already have two 9mm's, no justification for buying another one, but a deal like this seems noteworthy. Lots of positive reviews, too:

I use one for a truck gun. It has yet failed to go bang when I push the button.

I have 2 and they always work. Keep one in each truck. Just bought 2 of the Taurus G2c for $179 each at Academy and they work great. I consider them to be my cheaper Glock 26. Gave one to my daughter and she likes it too.

My first carry piece was a PT111, 9MM, 10 + 1, made about 2008. I put about 3,500 rounds through it without any problems.
Then the striker went bad, probably due to my non-cleaning of the gun since new. When it finally got cleaned, the insides kind of looked like chocolate pudding. My bad. I'm a much better gun cleaner now!

I sent it back to Taurus, they installed a new striker, and it continued to fire well. But then the lawsuit happened, due to problems with the manual safety allowing the gun to fire when it should not. I immediately stopped using it, and bought other handguns.

The PT111 G2 has been out since 2013, but as one of the above links stated, the new Taurus owners realized they had to clean up their act with regard to real and perceived quality problems. So I guess about 2015-2016 or so, they upped the quality and moved a lot of G2's due to the "value pricing."

I would think the new G2's would be a solid value, go bang every time, plus they are now 12 + 1 in 9MM, instead of the original PT111's 10 + 1 capacity.
Whenever I get around to doing the red tape required, Taurus owes me a free G2. I want it to be FDE (Flat Dark Earth). They have another shade of brown available, but I want the FDE with a black slide. Even with the better quality, Taurus would not be my first brand choice for a pistol, but hey, I will not mind a bit getting a free pistol. I'm kind of funny that way. :-)

YMMV.

The Academy by my house has a line of about 50-60 people at the firearms counter on Black Friday. Having been on the other side of a firearms counter before I felt a little sympathy for the 3 guys working it.

I went in the Academy store in Flower Mound on Saturday after black Friday and they had the Ruger PC9 carbine marked for $399. I nearly walked out with another one. :)

If you live in the DFW area, especially North... Go to GrabAGun.com... They are in Coppell... I find their regular prices destroy Academy, even some of Academy's sale prices are higher than Grabagun.com regular pricing... Plus they also have layaway and financing if you need it.... Oh.. AND NO STUPID TRIGGER GUARDS... You can actually put your finger on the trigger and see what it really feels like....
