Charles L. Cotton wrote:There are a number of gun bills that will be heard on Thursday, so it's going to be a busy day. HB3218 is near the end of the schedule, if the Chairman doesn't move it up. I'll be staying to testify against HB1747, the gun and ammo labeling bill that would mean that no guns or ammo would be manufactured in or shipped to Texas. What an absolute loon!!!

One option that is popular with people wanting to support a bill, but not wanting to stay late in the day, is to sign in (at a House kiosk) to support our gun bills, but not wanting to testify. Those people are on record as supporting the bill, but they don't have to be present when the bill is called. I do that on some bills when there's going to be a lot of testimony by others and I don't feel my expertise is needed and I haven't been specifically requested to testify.

Chas.
Charles can you tell us where the kiosk is that you mention?

This is THE 2A bill of the 2013 session.

http://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs/83 ... 03218I.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
SECTION 5. Sections 46.15(a) and (b), Penal Code, are amended to read as follows:
(a) Sections 46.02 and 46.03 do not apply to:
<snip>
(5) a person who is carrying a concealed handgun and a
valid license issued under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government
Code, to carry a concealed handgun of the same category as the
handgun the person is carrying.
Take a minute and READ 46.03 again.... Think about what this bill would do.... All those prohibited places... No longer prohibited.

PLEASE DO ALL YOU CAN TO SUPPORT HB 3218!
So if I understand this correctly, since 46.03 states "A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possesses or goes with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon listed in Section 46.05(a)" then this bill would also mean that a CHL holder could now carry an illegal knife, club, or other prohibited weapon? If so, then that's just one more benefit of this bill. I really hope we can get this bill passed.
Not at all. Just read what you said. :cool: No one can carry something that is illegal. It doesn't change anything under chapter 411 and 46.01 definines illegal weapons. CHL = Handgun, not "weapons" in general.

The House is in lunch recess until 1:11 p.m., when it will finish the local & consent calendar items (6 more items).

Looks like this means the committee won't meet until after they adjourn after that.

RealVideo streams: http://www.house.state.tx.us/video-audio/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Mobile site (video works on my Android phone): http://www.txlegis.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So much for the 8:AM start time on the meeting notice.
I assume that's common?

Glad I didn't make the trip... I'd have to be heading back home by now.
Thanks to all of those that are sticking it out to provide support. :thumbs2:

It's even worse, what a grade school circus.

Who has the shoes?

Why is Wu's nickname "Wooster."

"Is it true that you entered a pepe jeans contest with the hope of meeting Jason Priestly?" (answered in Spanish)

I'm sorry, the above was a vast raise in something, this is nursery school circus.

I wonder if they are all trying to slow the procedure down to keep from getting to some bills.

Glad you're there. Are you in the gallery or elsewhere doing something useful? :mrgreen:

Although the prom invitation was a nice touch.

Charles, we can always rest assured that you will be on site and standing up for us. Do you think there will be many other supporters that will continue to hang around ?

What happens if they don't make it all the way through the list today? Or will they stay tonight until they make it through the list?

Not sure about if they don't finish.

Charles just spoke against 1747.

(I got busy and missed the beginning; not sure why we jumped to near the bottom of the list.)

I just started watching again. So far the 3 I've seen were out of order. I guess they're jumping around?
