There is no such thing as a fair fight. Unless you are in a ring and have a referee.

There are no rules when it comes to fighting. Playing by other people's rules is how you lose. My dad was born in the 30's and was old school. If you messed with him you got whatever he felt like giving you. He would beat you with whatever he could get his hands on. Didn't matter if you were 7 feet tall or a midget. He fought to win.

I am always amused at people who think that any aspect of life should be "fair". This misguided notion is behind the mentality that government should intervene to ensure "fair" results, and other truly dangerous ideas, IMHO. Not sure where this misguided notion originates, though I believe participation trophies are a likely culprit.

But for the sake of argument, if we define "fair" as both sides having an equal chance to prevail (let's say that being "not dead" at the end = "prevailing" for purposes of this example), then here is my math.

Start with: Defender knows the battlefield better than the attackers
Divided by: Attackers outnumber defender 3:1
Multiplied by: Defender is better armed
Subtract: Attackers get to choose the time and place of the battle

So if we carry the one, my math says that the answer is .......... "fair enough".

My dad (Pawpaw for those who don't know) always taught me, "If you find yourself in a fair fight.... You're doing it wrong." Those words and the sentiment has served me well all my life.

If you are fighting fair, then your tactics suck. Just sayin.

What is "Fair"?? What is fair in a home invasion? When it comes to taxes, we hear the phrase "Fair Share". What is the definition of "Fair Share"?

The only place I find "Fair" is in the dictionary. In life, not a darn thing is fair.

That uncle that wanted a fair fight had his own definition of a "fair fight."
I am sure I would not like it or abide by it.
I will stick w/ Texas Law. That is what we will be judged by and not his definition.

Fair only counts if:

1. Both participants are willing to participate before the engagement begins.
2. Agree to rules before hand.
3. Have an objective third party mediator (referee if you will.)

I don't think it is fair the we need to use weapons to defend ourselves, but that is the world we live in and as far as human behavior is concerned, it seems to have always been that way. Most of us do not have any plans to attack another, but we need to be able to defend ourselves and loved ones from the deviants that do attack others. The older I get, the more I realize that I do not have a hankering for violence, so I will stop the threat anyway I can and as swiftly as I can. My intent is never to make the attacker's body to assume room temperature, but if that happens in the course of stopping the threat, then so be it. :tiphat:
That is as fair as I get.
