TX: Houston father & son in shootout with catalytic converter thief

#1

Post by ELB »

Last month (November):
https://www.khou.com/article/news/crime ... 6b45d13388

Father and son go to their truck in a parking lot and find a man cutting off the catalytic converter. According to the article, father and son open fire, thief shoots back hitting son in leg and arm. Thief escapes in another vehicle, but police later pick up a guy in a matching vehicle and charge him with evading while they investigate further.

Just going by bare details, probably not the way I would have handled it, but quite possible there are details missing, like who actually pulled a gun first versus who started shooting, etc.

That is about the most incomplete account of an exchange of gunfire that I have ever read. Would be nice to know the "whole" story.
Do what you say you're gonna do.

To be fair to the media, unless they witnessed it, they have to go by what the cops told them, and at the time the cops aren't sure of everything that happened, and when it happened.

With no names given, it's hard to follow up. I tried searching based on address and 'events' but come up with only initial stories.

They did not leave out much. Father and son see someone stealing parts from their truck. It is during the night so they know they can shoot to protect their property, and they do. The thief has a gun also and shoots back, hitting the son. The thief then flees but the good guys get a description of his car and tell the police. Some officer sees the described car and tries to stop it. The guy runs and won't stop for the police at first (this is all that was left out and it can be assumed from the evading charge that was filed).

Bad guy is off the street, and hopefully will be kept longer than the good guy is kept by the hospital. Good guy is hurt but should survive. Hopefully, son and father vow to go get some better lessons on tactics and shooting, hopefully to include LTC classes.
