Legislative Guide

Post by ELB »

One of Justice Willet's tweets reminded me of this:

Guide to Texas Legislative Information (Revised)...For the 84th Legislature March 2015

This is dated for the last Legislative Session (the 2017 session will be the 85th), but I doubt there will be radical changes in the procedures. The guide lays out the process that bills go through, so when you start running across terms like "first reading, second reading..." and so forth, you can find out what they mean in the guide. Good homework reading in preparation for the start of the Leg in January.

Also, the site Texas Legislative Council is worth checking out in general. The TLC is the administrative arm of the Legislature that researches, drafts, prints, and distributes (among other things) the bills under consideration.
