Seattle gun tax failure? Firearm sales plummet, violence spikes after law passes

All these gun control laws affect the wrong people,” Workman said. “The gang bangers don’t go in and buy ammunition at retail, at least not around here. It certainly hasn’t stopped them from getting their hands on firearms.”

Failure? That's how gun control is designed to work.

Seattle paid a total of $550,000 for the study aimed at connecting gunshot victims with social services in hopes of not seeing them in the emergency room again.
So Seattle believes that giving people more free stuff, ala social services, will fix the problem. Socialists :banghead:

Sounds to me, like more incentive to either get shot again, or shoot someone else.

What I like is their "conclusion" that most gun violence, is due to drug activity and gangs. Must have taken a doctoral Nobel laureate to figure that out.

"rlol"

I really can't understand why the promoters of this tax, won't talk about how well it seems to be working. :leaving

It's working exactly as planned...gun sales are plummeting.
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"

But only in Seattle. All of the gun dealers are moving to outlying cities, and thriving.

What they didn't even mention, was the fact that with sales of firearms and ammo, decreasing in Seattle, they are losing the normal revenue from sales taxes. I would bet that any money collected, from the "gun tax", is not even close to lost revenue.

I guess, the voters in Seattle don't have to be Mensa members to elect City Council members.

Where do you live that citizens can carry a handgun without a license while attending their son's high school football game?
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Well, you have to realize the Seattle city council recently approved a tax on sugary drinks.

Oh, and "Some council members favored including diet soda, which is more popular with wealthier white consumers. That was one recommendation made after the city put the plan through a racial-equity analysis."

Implied facepalm.

Let me get this straight. They taxed guns and ammunition with the purpose of using the tax revenue to fund a "study" that will hopefully tell them the causes of gun violence. Anybody want to take bets on whether or not the people running the "study" who are the recipients of the money have any connections to some member(s) of the council?
Do what you say you're gonna do.

Apparently, not one member of the city council has ever taken a basic economics class. The results are predictable.

Just to stir the pot, I sent an email to Tim Burgess, who the article named as the tax's proponent, with a link to the story. He hasn't replied yet though. :headscratch

I read the book series "229 Days" which is set in Washington State. I thought the author was exaggerating the level of liberal stupidity there. Apparently not.
