NRA/ILA wrote:FAIRFAX, Va.– The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action released the following statement on Friday regarding Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's recent comments on gun control proposals:

"With due respect, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s “proposals” would resurrect the same broken, Bloomberg-funded failures that were attempted under the Obama administration. Like most political gambits, Lt. Gov. Patrick’s “solution” precedes his possession of the facts, including this critical concession by the Obama administration: Criminalizing private firearm transfers would require a massive, governmental gun registration scheme. Instead of trampling the freedom of law-abiding Americans, the government should focus upon actual solutions: fixing our broken mental health system, prosecuting known criminals and enforcing the existing gun laws that require follow-up whenever a prohibited person tries to buy a firearm. In the meantime, the NRA remains at the forefront of legitimate efforts to combat crime in our country. We encourage Lt. Gov. Patrick to join us in support of the same."

Like Speaker Bonnen before him, Lt. Gov. Patrick seems to be under the erroneous belief that a prior good voting record means he can do and say anything he wishes without alienating gun-owners and former supporters.

The same holds for the Federal Executive Branch. I’ll remember the bumpstock infringement. I guess every voting person has a line in the sand, which if crossed, support is withdrawn.

These career politicians, at all levels, do not care who shoots whom. All they care about is their re-election! Our current POTUS is not a career politician.

Many gun ranges "rent out" guns to prospective buyers and people who do not own a gun but enjoy shooting. I guess these people will now require a background check ($) prior to renting.

I am praying the NRA puts enough pressure on these low life politicians to make them stay away from universal background checks. That is one very small step away from the government making a list and sending out goon squads to collect firearms they deem unsuitable for civilian consumption.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but you aren't going to continue your global attack on everyone you consider wealthy, at least not here on the Forum. You insult millions of people who contribute to the NRA and protection of the Second Amendment, based upon absolutely nothing other than your opinion.

Read this article about the signers of the Declaration of Independence. All 56 were wealthy and powerful men with LOTS to lose:

Didn't mean it as a global attack. Just from my experience neither politicians or the wealthy have much grit when things get tough. I'm sure there are exceptions.

Yes they were. Those were different men in those days. I don't think we have those type of men anymore. If we do I wish they'd make them selves known. We need them. :patriot:

So it’s started with Dan.
With friends like this, who needs enemies. I especially liked this part:
Patrick said he's spoken with gun store owners. They reportedly said they'd be happy to assist private sellers, by arranging for them to meet prospective buyers at their stores. The owners would run the buyers through the National Instant Background Check System.

"It takes a minute," Patrick said. "It's not a big deal."
So clearly these checks would be free, right? Are FFL's on board with this, Dan?
I would expect that FFLs who are for this see a way of making money off person to person transactions during a time when the industry is struggling. It’s been an extremely slow year for many firearms businesses, some wholesalers have gone out of business this year, others are laying off sales people and downsizing. There are also brick and mortar gun stores closing down some of which are local to me.

Some of it is due to regulation in states like Illinois where half of licensed gun dealers appear to be going out of business rather than comply with new laws. Illinois obviously did it as a form of gun control.

For me, personally, I would appreciate the opportunity to go to the local cop-shop, together with the other party in a gun transaction, and have the buyer and the weapon checked for eligibility and stolen, respectively. Print a receipt for each party, no other record kept.

No registration required, since the only check on the weapons is whether it was ever reported stolen.
NICS check on the buyer.
And a time stamped receipt on the transaction. In case the weapon is ever found tied to a crime.

I don't want to sell a gun to a felon or other disqualified person, or buy a stolen gun.
If that's better done by an FFL, OK, but, it should be easy and inexpensive.
I'd like it to be optional as well. So I could choose to use it for transactions with people I don't know personally. There's no reason for me to run a NICS check in order to gift a gat to my daughter.

YMMV

I always demand a bill of sale, with current ( non-expired) state issued ID, if I sell or buy.
Buyer and seller each have a copy, and LTCs preferred.
And, just sent an email to the Lt. Gov. He just lost my vote, forever.
