Revolver Qual for Instructors

Okay, this is my first time question. On the "revolver part" of the Instructors qualification: is it purely trigger pull?
Is it okay to cock the revolver with your thumb?

Unless it changed, instructors qualify on the range twice - once with a revolver/NSA and once with a SA handgun.

On the revolvers I understand they check the triggers for pushoff too even though you have to shoot double action.

You can set the hammer before each trigger pull, if you are quick. It's not a big deal on the 5 shots in 10 seconds, or the 5 shots in 15 from 15yds. You should do ok, even shooting double action. Folks have qualified with single action revolvers.

Take away the second first, and the first is gone in a second.

I have heard stories from people who said they were not allowed to thumb cock the revolver, but that was not my experience. I did my last renewal single action only and not a word was said by the DPS trooper looking over my shoulder.

Just like in our classes, I think they are most interested in seeing that you can handle your firearm safely and follow instructions.... while hitting the target most of the time.

The DPS range master at my qualification chastised us and instructed us NOT to cock the hammer and fire single action during the revolver qualifications. He noticed a lot of people doing it (including me) and admonished us to quit cocking the hammer and to fire double action only. Which we all did for the remainder of the qualification ;-)
