Hello everyone!
I moved to Austin in January after living in South Florida for the last 15 years. I grew up in Houston, so I'm not new to Texas.
I am a computer technician by trade. I am a GOA and NRA Life Member. I got my NRA Instructor (Handgun, Rifle, Shotgun, Personal Protection, Home Firearms Safety) and Range Safety Officer certifications a few years ago in Florida out of my committment to the Second Amendment, but I haven't done much with them. I also have a Florida CCW.
I'm disappointed that I didn't think to check on the DPS Instructor Course until after it was too late to take it this year - it never occurred to me that they only gave the course once a year. I must say I like Florida's approach much better - my NRA creds were good enough for Florida, I didn't have to jump through any other hoops.
Great forum! I'm glad I found out about it from The High Road.
