Need 1911 Slide Milled For RMR

Post by carlson1 »

Anyone of you have experience with some shops that will mill the slide for a RMRcc? In the DFW area would be great, but not opposed to sending it off. It is a Wilson combat CQB and W/C does not have the ability to mill the RMRcc footprint.

Carl,

I have no experience with them, but ShootSmart does slide milling. You might check there.

I have always used Ed Vanden Berg of Vanden Berg Custom (https://www.vandenbergcustom.com/) for all of my pistol work, including slide milling. He's in Pearland Texas, south of Houston. He charges about $200+.
I've seen a video of Vulcan Machine Werks (https://vulcanmachinewerks.com/) in Plano. I don't know anything about them, but I may send a S&W CSX to them to mill the slide for a Holosun 507K. I don't believe Ed will do a CSX.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. Mr. Cottton I called Mr. Vandenberg this morning and I am sending my slide at the end of the week. He has adopted the slide milling where you use the Glock MOS plates on your 1911 and use the sight you want. That way you are not fixed or locked down to to just one sight. I think that is brilliant. So I am going to start out with the Holosun 507c.

I'm happy to hear that Ed is still in business! I only used his services once and that was over a decade ago. First rate!

The only problem now... I'd sworn I wasn't going to have any of my 1911s milled for an RDS, that I'd wait until I bought a new one that was already setup that way. Now I blame Carl for my serious reconsideration and the possibility of spending money with Ed Vanden Berg again...

For anyone interested or still looking for milling in DFW Maple Leaf Firearms in Celina does excellent work.

Yes they do. They have done two Glocks for me the day I took them in. I didn’t think about them with my 1911. I guess I just figured they didn’t do 1911’s. I was there when they were unwrapping some new machines and they gave me a personal tour. I was very impressed. They are great people, but I have already committed to Mr. Vandenberg now so I will follow through.

However you are correct.

Just visited Vulcan MachineWerks in Plano and dropped off my Staccato for some work. Seemed like a solid operation and friendly group of guys.

350 + tax for direct milling for a 407K, refinish the slide frame and magwell Burnt Bronze. Excited to see how it turns out.
