Why dont I trust a 9mm??

#1

Post by swap71 »

REALLY need some feedback on an all time great argument. I EDC rotates between to pistols. A 1911 commander in 45 ACP, and a Kahr K9 in 9mm. BOTH shoot lights out and function flawlessly. BOTH have the same capacity. The Kahr is more comfortable to carry...but I always feel like I am carrying less of a weapon, for more than weight reasons.

How about 9mm 124gr +p?

There is no comparison in knockdown power though. Don't forget the .45 replaced smaller caliber weapons (.38) for no other reason than they were failing to knock down doped-up soldiers in the Philippines. The .45 changed that.

I have had/carried .380, 9mm, 38spl, .40, and .45. I still prefer to carry 9mm 124gr +p. Why?
1. Ability to shoot, and follow-up shoot MUCH better. My IDPA results show it!
2. Capacity (see above) I understand YOUR two EDC have the same capacity, that is no MY case
3. Cost of ammo
4. Consolidation of calibers (I own 3 9mm Glocks, so mags/ammo is easier to buy vs other calibers)

I keep the Kahr loaded up with Corbon 124 +ps...they are definitely HOT. The Kahrs trigger slows down follow up shots...I am actually faster with the 1911.

Hornady's Critical Duty is good stuff. Available in both P and +P. With that ammo, I don't worry one bit if it's going to be "good enough"

My Ruger SR9c is loaded with Federal HST 124 grain +P. I find they have a good weight vs velocity.

There's no reason you can't trust more than one gun or caliber.

Maybe a 9mm lied to him once and he can't forgive her.

Either are more than adequate for 90% or more of the scenarios you're likely to encounter. Either will be effective unless you're facing a PCP jacked 250# thug. In that case you need a 12 gauge with magnum slugs.

But NO handgun will be adequate in 100% of the potential cases one could face. Carry whatever keeps you comfortable, be that a 22 Derringer or a 50AE Desert Eagle.

:iagree:

Slight caveat that in general, carrying something in the .38/.357, 9mm, .40, or .45 variety is almost never a bad call.

No reason not to trust 9mm. Granted, your Kahr has a lower mag cap than most other 9mm's.... BUT I EDC a Glock 17. I can tell you that I prefer my G17 with 17+1 rounds of 147 gr 9mm than a 1911 with 7+1 of 230 gr .45 ACP. Not that anything is wrong with a 1911 either, but in my humble opinion, twice the number of 9mm rounds on hand is just as good--if not better-- than the other option.

I understand where you are coming from though. I felt strange alternating the G30 and the G17 for a while. Both were outstanding, both had more than enough mag cap (i carry extra mag as well), and both have a proven record of getting the job done. Something about .45 ACP gives me the warm & fuzzy though.

I dont know. Flip a coin and carry both.

Exactly my choice in my only 9mm......EMP.
Federal HST 124gr +P. :txflag:

I am confident it will do the job if I do mine.
I only carry the 9mm in the Summer.
Winter work is still the .45 with Federal HST 230gr +P. :cheers2:

Gold Dots 9mm 124 gr +P. Effective reasonably affordable and deadly.
1) Double tap, center mass
2) Observe?
a) failure to stop? Head shot plus double tap center mass.
b) threat ceased to be a threat? Stop, call 911.
