Vehicle Gun Safes

#1

Post by Charlies.Contingency »

Does anybody have one? Does anybody need one? So far, here are some of the suggested product sites:
http://www.consolevault.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (SATX-Scrub)
http://www.tuffyproducts.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (G.A. Heath)
http://www.gunvault.com/gun-safes/nano-vault.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (WhoWouldGuess)

Does anybody own or have one? My previous SUV had a lockable center console, but my truck I drive every day has no locking interior compartments. I was hoping some people on here could give some ideas, and it would be beneficial to those looking for a way to secure their firearm in a safer manner, when we have to leave mi amigo behind. I currently have a 95/96 interior Chevrolet C/K extended cab with the 60/40 bench. I'm thinking I may have to MAKE a locking console on the center floor board. :grumble

On a second not, does anybody here have a way to properly and safely store your firearm if you're on a motorcycle? I was thinking that if I ever have to get off and go into a prohibited place, I'll have to have a locking hard box or hard saddle bag on it or something.

Thanks guys, I look forward to everybody's response!

I have a Console Vault for my F150, and they make them for GM too.

http://www.consolevault.com/

Really do like mine.

Nevermind, just noticed the year on your Chevy, they may not make it.

Yeah, my interior is 5 generations old! It is a 20yr old truck, but that old detroit diesel has outlasted any cummins I ever had!

Those are great prices for custom safes though! They're not much more that universal ones. I have seen floating around!

While it may not be the same quality as the console vault products Tuffy Security products might have what you want at http://www.tuffyproducts.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

I have a small Nano safe in the tool compartment (under the floor) of my SUV. I run the cable through the child seat tether hook. When the compartment is closed, you don't see anything. You could also attach the cable to the seat supports and put it under the seat, but it won't be as hidden if your vehicle is broken into. an example of the little safe is here: http://www.gunvault.com/gun-safes/nano-vault.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They have a huge variety though! I'll have to search it when I get home to my computer, the site doesn't like my phone very much! It gave the option for my truck, but it won't let me look at any of the stuff. :cry:

It seemed small and pathetic at first glance, but now it doesn't seem so bad. It's fairly secure, padded, but it just sits there tethered by the cable? I would feel safer knowing it was hard mounted to the floorboard or something, but still far more secure than a glove box!

I just had the idea that a slide out box underneath the drivers seat, like a drawer of some sort, wouldn't be a bad idea if from sitting in your seat, you can reach down, unlock it, and slide it out between your feet, so it doesn't have to be an awkward affair, trying to put it in the safe. And maybe fairly discretely going from armed to unarmed as well.

Did you see the note at the bottom of the Chevy page? They might build you one.

I also don't have a center console, but I'll look to see what they can provide. Good catch!

Well, they do make a universal and a cover for it.

I never noticed the universal link, I guess I thought it was by make only! But by the picture, I'm almost certain that is a 99-02 silverado! (Also have a 99, and they dash and shifter look the same)

If I wanted to, that would work nicely, I'd just have to find the time to move my plastic floorboard console and relocate all my electronics. Cb, radar, phone charger, and auxiliary are all run to it! But for now that's gonna be one of my top picks. Easy access, can be secured through the safe to the floor, good to go, just gotta toss something over it to make it look less appealing to would be vandals.

That's what the cover is for (they call it a "Universal Cloak). It makes it look like a cheap drink holder/console.

After readin it though, that's exactly what it is, A cover that you must completely take on and off eerytime you must access the safe. I use my center console, so that would be a bit of an issue to have to move it, place it to the side, open and close cault, then reinstall cover. They prioritize in factory center consoles, so I'll keep looking elsewhere.

Look into the "Center of Mass" gun safe.

Inexpensive, (roughly $40/45) very strongly built and convenient to use.

They come either keyed or with a combination lock, your choice.

If you get one, order 2/3 cables, that way you can leave 1 cable installed in another vehicle (assuming you have more than 1 of course and the cables are also inexpensive and built strong)

This type of gun safe will stop the smash and grab type thief. However, if he comes prepared with tools, well, you'd probably have the same result no matter what safe you choose...

Good luck!

I have the nano vault mounted inside of my Expedition console. It's mounted vertically closest to the drivers seat. So the hinge is at the bottom and lock is facing the passenger seat. I also have the wire cable ran down and attached to the frame under the console. If I remember correctly, I had to make a longer cable. It's a clean look, but you have to kind of balance the gun while locking it in. Since it's vertical, you have to hold the gun upright while closing the lid. After a little practice it can be done with one hand.
