Look for a Colt Python with a 4 or 6 inch barrel. I believe that they have the best factory trigger of any revolver.
The first gun I ever bought was a 4 inch barrel Python. I paid $300 back in 1976.
I just looked and they range from $2000-3000.

I am like dhl and usually shoot 38 Special rounds.
carlson1 suggested the S&W 327 TRR8 an excellent choice. Especially having the equipment rails.
If I were in the market, that is the one I would probably buy.
Since it has a Scandium frame it is probably a beast with full power loads.

If strictly for target shooting, I'd personally be looking for a Dan Wesson (Monson) 715 VH (Vent Heavy barrel shroud) -- especially if I could find the Pistol Pack with all four barrels, the case and accessories. I've been partial to Dan Wessons since seeing them dominate in the revolver class of IHMSA back in the early '80s.

FYI, there are a bunch of Pythons and a Dan Wesson on texasguntrader right now. All it takes is money.

If you haven’t heard of, handled or fired an Manurhin I’d suggest considering them. I’d say to check out a Korth if you hit the Powerball but some surplus MR73’s can be found (or you can pick up one off Gunbroker for the price of a Python.

The S&W 327 TRR8 is pleasant to shoot even with full house loads. I have the R8 which is very similar (light rail is integral, not bolt on as on the TRR8 and a couple of other very minor differences). Even though it is a Scandium frame, it is still a fairly heavy pistol. I really like mine, just don't shoot it enough. This thread has reminded me of the pistol and it will be going to the range soon along with a couple of 45 ACP revolvers that I have that have not been shot in a long time either.

Surprised no one has s&w 27-2 or 28-2. Possibly the best Smith revolver ever built and the only contender aginst the colt snake. Just my opinion.

I have a blue 3" but for some reason I can't ever figure out how to post pics correctly here.
Thanks for posting it.

If I am not mistaken the M27 was the first .357 made by Smith and Wesson. In fact I don’t believe it was even called a Model 27 in the day.

I like the M27 over the M28.

I like the M27 over the M28.
The difference between the two is cosmetics. The 27 was the flagship of the line. Before it was given the mdl # it was called the registered magnum.
And yes it was their first in .357.
