News: Domain names with non-Latin/Roman characters

Since the conception of the ancestors of the Internet, domain names have been limited to the letters A-Z and the dash (-). These letters are usually called the Latin, Roman, or ASCII character set (though the ancient Romans did not have j, u, or w -- computer geeks don't have to be linguists).

ICANN, the supervising authority for such matters, just authorized using non-Latin character sets such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic in domain names.

This will be great for people who actually read and write those languages, and probably make it easier for the rest of us to delete spam.
