Low key "local" Garand matches?

#1

Post by Leatherneck1/3 »

I got an M1 about 4 years ago, I've put about 300-400 rounds through it, all Greek surplus.
I live in West and starting to get interested in shooting in some matches.
More to meet other Garand owners/shooters, get tips and some friendly
competition. I'd be willing to drive about 2 hours one way. Anyone
have some info where to go?

It is probably too far away from you, but Bayou Rifles, just South of Houston, has several Garand matches a year. Low key, friendly, many first-time shooters (match shooters, not first-time rifle shooters).

Greenwood also has Garand matches - they are a little farther South of Houston than Bayou Rifles.

The Garand match at Bayou scheduled for this Saturday, Dec 27th, looks like it might get rained out - but the weather reports this early may be wrong, I'm hoping they are. Next one at Bayou is January 31, 2015, then not again until May. Go to bayourifles.org for schedules.

I wish we were closer!

Thanks BC, yeah that's just a little further than I was looking for.
But maybe this spring or summer I may venture down there when the days
are longer.

Terrell Rifle and Pistol Club hosts Garand matches. They recently hosted the Texas State Championship this past November which I got to watch. I believe Terrell is about 1.5 to 2 hours from West, but I could be wrong about that.
