Yesterday I turned the big 50 :thewave I am AARP eligible...LOL

I have yet to recieve my renewal so yesterday was the last day I could carry legally :cryin :cryin

Since Texas is now taking so long to process these renewals due to the increases in applications, they should give us a grace period after the expiration if we have in fact, sent in the renewal. Mine was sent in the middle of June. It feels strange since I have ben carrying legally for 10 years. :grumble

When did you submit your renewal?

Have you called Austin yet, to see where your application is in the process?

Larry,

The middle of June as I posted in my first post.

I had no idea we could call and find out where in the processing stage the renewal is!!!

UPDATE: I just called and was told it is in the final stages of processing, whatever that means!!! I was told that the applications had more than doubled past where they were this time last year. Obviously the DPS has not feel the need to add more folks to staff to handle the processing. This upsets me as the justification is there and so is my and many other folks' money. Their salary is pretty much paid for in the backlog, and between you and me, I dont ever see the applications & renewals decreasing.

Dude,
your frustration is definitely founded. However, if you look around just a wee bit, you'll find the answers to ALL of your questions.

The money: it goes into the "general fund" not back to DPS
The staff: DPS has only partial control over how many people they have a budget to hire. they have legislators to answer to.
they actually *have* hired more folk, and are working on streamlining the process.
App #'s: you, I believe, are correct. the numbers will only continue to rise.

unfortunately, if you had checked here and seen the increased wait times for new apps, maybe you could have sent it in sooner. or as I suggested, gotten another license for the possible interim.

as an aside, the CHL Division has had serious problems with licenses coming back from the manufacturers not up to spec. that issue, as well as the others, has been addressed, but may still be causing some of the back log.
good luck and hope your renewal gets here soon.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
