So.. What exactly do I mail them?
I want to make sure I'm not missing anything... do they really just want me to mail them this checklist that they sent me and nothing else?

I just uploaded my checklist through their system. I never mailed anything.
Got my new CHL in 20 days.

Alright then, I'll just send them back the sheet they just sent me!USA1 wrote:I just uploaded my checklist through their system. I never mailed anything.

Gotta love bureaucracy.
For anyone else's reference, I sent them the checklist using this form here after I could not find any other email address/contact information. Love how they say to email it to them, but do not say how, or where.

Re: So.. What exactly do I mail them?
You actually paid through a third party. The sheet you received comes from that third party. By sending that sheet back to DPS you are telling them you paid the third party. You don't have to send DPS that sheet as the third party will notify DPS eventually. Sending the sheet to DPS speeds up the process.dicion wrote:Alright then, I'll just send them back the sheet they just sent me!USA1 wrote:I just uploaded my checklist through their system. I was told by the CHL instructor that emailing it to them was significantly faster. I scanned the list to PDF and uploaded it through their email contact form and they replied the next day. Their response was "We have received the documents attached to your email. This information will be forwarded to a CHL Specialist for review and processing. For more information on CHL status changes and updates visit http://www.DPS.Texas.gov" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or go to the Status Check link. Please allow staff sufficient time to continue processing these documents. "
That was on 3/14/14 so the clock is ticking. I'll update once I have Cert in hand.

Can confirm, got a reply last night at 9pm saying they got it and were processing...

Re: So.. What exactly do I mail them?
You might be better off mailing it to them. I took care of EVERYTHING in early February; class, documentation, payments, upload of all documentation.
Since then I have had to call three times for even an update as the website STILL says that my application has been received online but they are awaiting my supporting documentation.
The first hint that something was wrong was when I received an email saying they are still waiting for my supporting documents a few weeks AFTER I uploaded them. I called and was told they couldn't find any record of them so, thinking there was a glitch, I uploaded them again; no big deal.
Shortly after that I received ANOTHER email saying they had no record of my supporting documents. Once again, I uploaded them.
The second time I called was in mid March; while on the phone with DPS I uploaded my supporting documents (for the THIRD time) and the girl on the phone with me verified that the documents arrived right then and there and that I had done everything necessary; no further action needed on my behalf. She said by the following Wednesday the website would reflect that they had been received and were being processed and that she would put a note on my application to try and move it along. She was very courteous, friendly, and seemed helpful so it seemed like things were finally fixed. Nope, the website never changed.
My third phone call was at the beginning of April and the guy I spoke to told me they had only just started processing the stuff from February (which flies directly in the face of what I was told before) and that I was just going to have to wait. He also said there was no way for him to verify if my documents had been received or not. I explained what the young lady said and he just blew it off.
So as of today, almost three months later, the website still says they are awaiting arrival of my supporting documentation.
I know there are people here who freak out at the smallest criticism of anything Texas related but simply put, this process is sorely inefficient and Texas really needs to fix the CHL application/processing system.

I tried to call and hit a brick wall "Our agents are too busy right now...". I hope you are wrong about mailing them in and emailing was enough. I guess time will tell at this point; if they are really that busy then I guess it will be a looooong wait anyway.

Re: So.. What exactly do I mail them?
I've sent away for the AZ non-resident license kit. It'll have my Texas address and as I don't have kids, I'm not worried about the school thing; I've no need to be around them anyway. Texas needs to step up their game as far as CHL processing is concerned. I get that a lot of people are applying but it's been well over 60 days since I sent my stuff in and the website STILL says they haven't even received it (see above for the ordeal). Within two days of requesting the AZ kit online I received an email saying it was being mailed to me. Even in backwards GA I had my permit in 16 days from application to having it in my mailbox; and that was over the Thanksgiving holiday. I love Texas but they really suck at the permit process.

Texas is way larger & tons more people than Arizona. It's simple math.

It's hard to drive to the grocery store without violating the "school thing". It is something everyone should be worried about.FormerTSgt wrote:I've sent away for the AZ non-resident license kit. Then hire more people or re-purpose some. Simple solution to simple math.infoman wrote:Texas is way larger & tons more people than Arizona. It's simple math.

So if I drive by a school WITHOUT a CHL (since my car is an extension of my home) it's ok. If I drive by the same school with an out of state CHL then I'm in violation of the law. Pure genius. And people wonder why I'm critical of the Fed gov't.jmra wrote:It's hard to drive to the grocery store without violating the "school thing". Nope. If you drive by a school without a Texas CHL you are in violation of the Federal Gun Free School Zone Act. The vehicle is NOT an extension of your home in this case.FormerTSgt wrote: So if I drive by a school WITHOUT a CHL (since my car is an extension of my home) it's ok. Re: So.. What exactly do I mail them?
To add insult to injury my friend who took the class two weeks AFTER I did (and submitted two weeks after I did) received his CHL in the mail today. Meanwhile the website STILL reads that they are awaiting my supporting documents (from February) so nothing has been processed yet. I have verified TWICE now over the phone that they do in fact have my supporting documentation but have yet to receive a single reason as to why they haven't even started processing them yet (and before anyone asks, I have never been in trouble with the law; hell I was a military cop for 14 years). Both times the answer I have received is, "not sure what the hold up is, we're really busy; you're just going to have to wait." Over 3 months now. Absolute nonsense.
