Got My Employer to Change New Employee Training for Texas Locations
During orientation for the company I am now working at, the zero tolerance policy for weapons was discussed. During this presentation it was stated that the possession, transfer, use, or display of any firearm anywhere on company property (specifically to include parking lots) would result in immediate termination. I approached the instructor in private on a break and respectfully told them to go read SB 321 and the TMPA and give me their thoughts on the topic. The instructor asked me for a summary of the laws (which I initially did not volunteer on the basis of me not being a lawyer), and two days later the instructor came into class and announced that after reviewing the relevant laws and speaking to the corporate office about the discrepancy between company policy and state law, we were welcome to keep our licensed handguns in our cars in accordance with SB 321.

But according to legend, since Texas is an “at will” employment state (like the other 49 states), your employer will now fire you and they don’t have to give a reason so you are now out of luck.
On a more serious note, when I worked for a very large multinational, their weapons policy had an exception to to,the policy where state or local law conflicted.

I'm impressed that the company was willing to admit their error, and change.

Excellent!! The company I work for is being bought out and I am planning to try to at least get the 30.06 signage removed. We don't currently have any policy about parking lots but I will have my information prepared with SB 321 for sure.

So was I, especially since the person I spoke to lived in California and Nevada for most of their life! It speaks a lot to both that person's character and the ethics of the company.

Now if we can get DPS to start teaching instructors what the law actually says, instead of what they wish it says.
