New postings 06/07 signs

#1

Post by jmorris »

Are other areas getting bombarded like San Antonio? This month so far I've gotten 36 notifications from Texas3006 of new 06 and/or 07 signs. That's more than I've gotten for at least the six months prior.

I think it's got to be knee-jerk reaction to all the incidents lately.

In my area, I have only gotten a few notifications. All of those that post both 06, and 07 signs are the usual suspects. Credit Unions and medical clinics. I live about 30 miles south of Ft Worth. The city just to my north is growing by leaps and bounds. New restaurants, stores, etc. I haven’t found any signs posted at the new businesses I have patronized.

Maybe more people are using/contributing to the app? Which if true would stand to reason that more members would result in better reporting/coverage of an area.

As Jusme noted I haven’t seen any increase in the numbers of places posted, but I did notice a huge influx of new members on the app. Maybe Russell will comment on what they’re seeing.

:iagree:

Also, I would be willing to bet that most of the new listings, are also new businesses. If they are established, businesses, they have had no issues, and I doubt they would suddenly want to alienate, customers. In the DFW area (where I have my notification preference) There are not any new listings for most places I frequent. Almost all medical clinics, post signage. As do Credit Unions, and payday loan locations. All of the notifications I get, fall into one of those categories. JMHO

After looking at the new entries it appears that one of the Mods is adding a lot of previously unidentified locations in SA. I’ve seen the same Mod do this for other areas. Not sure if he’s using Google Streetview to verify or if he does this as he’s out and about around the state.

Not sure how this will play out, but I did manage to get a 51% sign removed over the weekend. Wife and I were going for brunch at a little bistro near our home. We've been going to this restaurant for several years. Anyway, as we were about to walk into the door I noticed a new shiny red 51% sign in the window. So I'm like say WHAT... so the door opens and a young man greets us and I ask him what's up with the sign?, and asked so when do you guys sell more alcohol than food? Your a bistro.. He wasn't too sure so I asked if he could get his manager and that I couldn't come in with that sign posted. He grabbed his manager and I asked him the same question and he was like I don't know, the owner just put it up this morning but yea, we don't sell hardly any alcohol here... He grabbed the sign off the window and bade us in to sit down and enjoy our brunch. I'll have to wait to go back to find out what is going on as the owner wasn't in so I couldn't ask what his intentions were... Hopefully just a misunderstanding and he doesn't want a 30.06....

Saw the same thing up here in Lubbock. JustSomeOldGuy is doing a lot of leg work.

If they put the sign back up, contact the TABC, you can check their sign status on line. If it is not a red sign, they are in violation of the TABC code.

Got a batch again today, all by JustSomeOldGuy, a moderator with over 4000 entries. They are not new businesses, some have been here since I moved here in 96. Range from day care to eateries to car dealers to manufactures. One that I pass by quite often, Universal Forest Products (UFP), commercial supplier of lumber, I first noticed the signs about a month or so ago. Just hadn't had a chance to stop for pictures. Vulcan Materials (quarry and concrete) is another one. And I just remembered Quickete was one listed.

Also, I believe that the TABC license is the determining factor, not the sign. Meaning if they are a Red sign location (>51% alcohol sales), then you are prohibited from carrying there regardless of their signage. Someone please correct me if I am wrong here.

Yes. I did this on two separate occasions. You can report through the TABC App. In one case, a wine bar had a 51% and a BLUE sign both posted. The TABC guy actually called me for clarification and said he was going by the place to check it out. So, the system works (sometimes).

I agree. Hopefully it would be a defense to prosecution if they posted incorrectly. But it is easy enough to look up a license status on the TABC website.

Keep in mind that if it is a newer establishment, they haven't collected the actual receipts to determine their 51% status, so the TABC will make the BLUE or RED determination based on estimates, so it may actually be incorrect until they renew.

And the TABC in not infallible (surprising right?) They have been known to list a business as one sign designation on their web site, when in actuality, it is the other. But the business can be reported, and the TABC will get back with you on it. YMMV

Follow this link and tell me I’m wrong. When talking about signage they keep saying CONCEALED when talking red 51% sign. Umm it’s any firearm, not just concealed. My opinion is that they need to edit the wording.

My guess, that page hasn't been updated in quite a while.
