North Texas Winter Storm

Post by Jaguar »

Anyone else iced in? No issues here, power is on, internet, television, and the phones all work, just can't leave the house safely. Saw it coming earlier this week and stocked up on food for a few day. I haven't even heard a car pass by yet. I'm a few miles north of Mineral Wells, waiting for the thaw. No work today.

Unfortunately I drove 30 miles to work early this morning. My power was on when I left, but wifey texted and said it has been off since about 6am. I just hope I can make it back home this afternoon. There was no traffic coming to work, but going home may be a different story. :grumble

Power on, kids at home, working from my home office. Ah, it feels like Thanksgiving break v2.0.

Same here in Southwest Wise County. Everything works, generators on stand-bye. Fireplace roaring and chili simmering on the wood burning stove.

My company has a standing policy that if the school is closed, we are closed, and if the school starts late or ends early, we do the same. No guessing if it's safe to travel or having folks risk life and limb to make it to work. Works for me - I just hate the "catch up" days afterwards.

This was a sleet storm here and the roads are bad. Here is a shot of the road in front of my house, no tire tracks yet.

Jealous...
Austin had some icy bridges this morning, a few road closures, but no real accumulation...

About to head to Waco for a Baylor visit and to watch the UT vs Baylor game tomorrow. Hoping the icy roads stay north of there. It's gonna be cold though.

Looks pretty, but doesn't compact much when you walk on it.

Yesterday, my boss said "If you feel uncomfortable driving in, then work from home." That made me feel uncomfortable.

Wasn't it just 75'F the other day?

Not sure I can get out of my driveway. The sleet is drifted up against the length of my house and sloping down towards the curb of the driveway.
Might give it a try later just for grins. Haven't driven in the slippery stuff in a long time. Need some spin-control practice.

Power is on. Iced in. Kids out of school. I don't need to get out, so not worth risking a fender bender if I don't have to.

:iagree: I could hole up like this for a long time, even if we didn't have power. No reason to go anywhere until roads are clear.
