Fort Worth's dollar store rules are Bloomberg nanny style!

The above link details the crazy rules which the City of Fort Worth has imposed on any new dollar stores located within the city limits.

This would appear to mess with the business practices of Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar. Those are the main chains that would be negatively affected by these rules.

They want 10% of new dollar stores' floor areas to sell fresh meat, produce, and dairy. This is an SJW (Social Justice Warrior) attempt to eliminate the "food desert" problem that is alleged to exist in low income areas.

Dollar General, and maybe some others, already has a dairy section, and some food items. But I believe that Fort Worth's decree to make store owners meet the 10% of floor area rule is over reaching.

Michael Bloomberg, the anti large soda candidate, should be mighty proud of his Fort Worth SJW's.

Mesquite, Texas apparently has some kind of rules along these lines, but the story made only a passing reference to Mesquite (Dallas County).

Michael Bloomberg, as Mayor of NYC, banned all soft drinks larger than 16 ounces, since he is a lib who likes to keep people from making their own decisions.

He is a rabid anti who funds the astro turf anti gun groups.

I should have been clear. I have no interest once I read Bloomberg. I am aware of Mike "the nanny" Bloomberg style of deciding for everyone else what is best for them. Or said another way, he does not trust people to decide for themselves.

So because these stores provide services to those with limited funds the socialist want to restrict them and keep them away. I don't know what a food desert is, but Fort Worth seems to have lots of options.. Gas station Taquerias. Brbeque Joints. What-a-Burger, Dairy Queen, Mc Donald's are everywhere. What else do you need? Sounds to me that Randells, H.E.B. and Kroger's are ganging up on the underdogs to prop prices up.

More proof socialism is all about control.

I’m too tired of fighting this kind of nonsense to care anymore. The world is going to Hades, and Fort Worth—my county seat—appears to be along for the ride. The only way I can cope with this stuff is to disengage, and devote my time, effort, and political donation money to prepping instead for what’s coming.

The reach being made with some real facts being added is, low income people are using the very local, on ever corner dollar general and like type stores to source their daily food from.

As such, instead of going to HEB and buying 1lb of ground beef, 1 can of tomatoes, 1 can of tomato sauce, 1 package of Spaghetti Seasoning. Having now several meals of decent quality for the $6.24 they spent, they instead stop at the corner dollar general and by a frozen pizza, or a box of Taquitos, 2 frozen burritos for about the same costs getting less value and likely less nutrition.

But that said and why I see the conclusion being made as off...I shop at HEB almost daily for our food and I see carts loaded with junk, toaster pastries not fruit, eggs, yogurt. Frozen pizza, or Taquitos, or frozen burritos, not some veggies, a meat, maybe a starch.
IOW, the location of shopping is less the issue then the desires and concern for what they buy

"Food deserts" are a real problem. Poorer neighborhoods do not have access to HEBs, or other regular grocery stores, because they are usually miles away with no mass transit available, and many of those folks do not have their own transportation. So, they have to resort to fast food, convenience stores and gas stations for basic groceries, and even if healthy foods are available, the prices are jacked up. It is a real problem for honest people who are struggling.

However, I do not think it is a problem the government should be trying to fix by mandating rules. Welfare programs never turn out very well.

Supermarket chains will not go into neighborhoods that have a large number of dollar stores because a lot of what the $ stores do sell are basics that brings people into the supermarket but the $ stores are a little cheaper. Milk, cereal, eggs, etc. Earnings for supermarkets in such neighborhoods are lower, sometimes much lower, than ones in similar neighborhoods lacking $ stores.

We are the only major industrialized country in the world without nationalized single payer "food care". Food health is too important to be left to the uniformed masses, Everyone, regardless of income should be covered by national Foodicare. A federally licensed dietitian will evaluate your needs and those of your family and issue you a card which entitles you to receive your fair share of food. No more unhealthy Big Macs and Whataburgers from the BIg Food corporations. Your school and work will have a weigh in before you are allowed to vote or collect your paycheck.
