Barney Is My Hero

Barney has a history of biting. On West Wing White House tours, visitors are not permitted in the Rose Garden if Barney is outside because he has bitten visitors in the past.

The victim Thursday was Jon Decker who works for Reuters TV. Decker asked the dog handler if he could pet Barney and after he received the go-ahead, Barney snapped and broke skin on Decker's finger. (Probably a Democrat)

I say, we loose a hundred Barneys on the press.

Scottish Terriers are famous for biting, but even if they weren't....the reporter reached down too quickly toward the dog.

When petting a "strange to you" dog, you should lower your stature, offer your hand only part way (slowly), and do not look the dog in the eye. If the animal accepts your advance...then you MIGHT get away with petting it.

Personally, I chose NOT to advance upon animals unless they are displaying absolutely unmistakable signs of friendliness.

Good ole' Barney, he must have stayed up late and watched the elections. ;-)
