My new to me 30/30
Dad bought it used in the mid 1960's used and I got from him in July.
This Winchester well used but still has solid wood and bluing. I going to put a sling on it and remove the side mount scope and install some peep site.

Re: My new to me 30/30
I have two - a 1949 Marlin Model 336A that was my grandpa's and a 1966 Glenfield Model 30 that was my dad's. Both are still in pretty good shape and I still shoot them occasionally, maybe every other year or so.
Between the two of them, they brought down a lot of Texas Whitetails, but not while in my hands, unfortunately.

This thread is useless without pics.

I have my grandpas model 94 Winchester 30-30. Pre 64 and I looked up the date of manufacture and it's somewhere around 1957. The bluing is almost perfect. It was his prize possession as far as guns go and he took more deer and hogs than I can imagine with it. I shot a box of shells through it about five years ago then I cleaned it up oiled it and it stays in the safe. I get it out a couple times a year and admire it and wipe it down with oil. The wood is still in very good shape and hardly has any gouges or scratches because he took that good of care of it. It will go to my kids one day when I have some.

Glenfield 30 on top, Marlin 336A on bottom. They both have leather straps, which I removed so you could see them better in the gun cabinet (which my grandpa built).EastTexasRancher wrote: "How cool that your dad gave you a great rifle like that. They are not particularly valuable, but knowing who held them for many years makes them priceless to me. I remember sitting in deer stands with each of them as a young kid, watching them handle these rifles, just about drooling for a chance to hold one. I remember my grandpa letting me load his, and the first time my dad let me shoot his.

Cool Ideas
I have been busy with my sick wife . It might be a year before I really work on it.
