From NSSF's "Bullet Points" ......
GOVERNOR VETOES CONCEALED CARRY BILL . . . Lawmakers in Wisconsin, one
of only four states that bans concealed weapons, will vote as early as
this week on whether to override Gov. Jim Doyle’s veto of a concealed
carry bill. The state’s Senate passed the bill with a 28-5 vote, but
Doyle—as he said he would—vetoed the bill on Friday. Sen. Dave Zien,
R-Eau Claire, says Republicans have the votes to override. The bill
would allow those who pass a firearms training course and obtain a
permit to carry concealed guns, as well as knives, electric shock
defense mechanisms and clubs. The governor vetoed a similar bill in
2003, and has said he is confident his veto will not be overridden.
also maybe of interest......
CRIMINALS KILL, NOT GUNS . . . Though Boston’s mayor was quick to blame
guns for his city’s violent crime problem, New Hampshire’s Union-Leader
pointed out last week that a rise in the city's murder rate can be
attributed to more criminals in the city. “Last year Boston Mayor Tom
Menino blamed an influx of guns from northern New England for the city's
spiking murder rate. But an analysis by The Boston Globe last week found
a more plausible culprit. A rise in young men. Typically, cities that
see large increases in their population of young males also see large
increases in crime. Boston was no exception, the Union-Leader
explained. “If Boston officials don't want a repeat of 2005, they'd do
well to turn their resources toward finding and locking up gang members
and drug dealers rather than changing gun laws in New Hampshire, Maine
and Vermont.

NEWEST FASHION CRAZE: GUNS? . . . “What's stylish this year in home
design? Bold graphic patterns. Blue and brown, used together. Bamboo.
Green walls. And guns, writes Boston Globe columnist Linda Matchan.
Firearms have become the latest craze among fashion designers, who are
including them in everything from Victorian-themed pillows to lamps that
go for $1,500.

Clubs? I can see some old lady whipping out a flail and getting medieval on a would-be purse snatcher.

Seriously though. I hope the Governer is wrong and his veto gets overridden.

This has been a really long battle for our friends in the frozen tundra! Hopefully they get things taken care of this time. I bet a small fortune has been spent trying to get the citizens of Wisconsin the rights that should be guaranteed to them.

Interesting how ONE idiot can really keep some people from being able to protect themselves...

I do see a solution though...

I wonder if those 28 senators will go back and tell their constituencies what the govenor thinks of them...

Senate overrides concealed carry veto; Assembly next Jan 26, 2006

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state Senate Thursday overrode Gov. Jim Doyle's veto of a bill that would let Wisconsin residents pack pistols, clubs and knives in their pockets.

The fate of the state's 133-year-old ban on concealed weapons now rests with the state Assembly, which plans its own override try on Tuesday. The vote likely will hinge on six Assembly Democrats who broke party lines and voted with Republicans to pass the bill in December.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

So now we know what some legislators really feel about their constituents. This line from the full article says it all:

"Sen. Fred Risser, D-Madison, said the bill could lead to angry constituents shooting legislators."

Shouldn't politicians be afraid of "the people"?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but while the WI Senate had the votes to override the veto, their House came up 2 votes shy. As the story was reported to me on SIGForum.com, two Dems who initially voted for the CCW bill changed their minds for the override vote, and the override was missed by those two votes.
