Open Carrying in Las Vegas

#1

Post by nitrogen »

Has anyone been to Las Vegas and carried openly?
I wouldn't even think of doing it on "the strip" but I know Nevada has some annoying gun laws. First off, they have no chl reciprocity. Second, Vegas requires regestration of handguns for residents, but not for visitors.
Everything I read states that if you open carry in Vegas, the cops might check to see if your gun is registerd.

Anyone actually done this and know how it works?

I've spent a lot of time in Vegas. I got married there, my parents live there, and it's my Wifes favorite city.

Open carry in plain clothes on the strip? I've never seen it but I can tell you this. You're 99.9% sure to get jumped and have the gun stolen before the cops ever saw you anyway. Heck, it might even get lifted without you knowing it since the strip has the highest incidence of pick pocketing in the entire country.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? Well they can keep it. I only tolerate it in the interest of domestic tranquility.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

I have open carried in Las Vegas on numerous occasions before I got my Nevada CFP. I've had no issues. I do suggest registering your firearm with LVMPD if you are going to open carry. I also wouldnt open carry on the strip, Freemont street, or in a casino. Im pretty sure you will get hasseled, there are just too many tourists around.
