Although, not exactly about Texas' CHL I was wondering if anyone was aware of any other states' that have similar forums. I have family in Kansas and was thinking that if they had a similar forum I could read and or join theirs to learn more about their laws and how they get interpreted in their courts.

Thanks Ghostrider. I found this one for Kansas, but it appears to be down for the time being.

I believe Utah, Montana and Oregon has one but I didn't save the website. :???:

It wouldn't surprise me if every state that had CHL's had one.

There are lots of forums out there, many not specifically devoted to one state, like ours or the one's listed. On http://concealedcarryforum.com/forum/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they even have a chat room which I find VERY interesting! I wish we had a chat room. I think that was discussed here at one time or another but nothing came of it.

We had a chat room for about 3 months, but I had to remove it because it was causing problems for the web host. The software sent a query to the server every 5 seconds and this was causing the problem.

It was very busy on election night, but little traffic after that.

We can make an informal one on an IRC network thats already existing. Then you could use your own client if you wanted, or a web based client like Mibbit If you just want a web based one. Personally, I sit in online chat rooms for various topics all day long (networking, ham radio, etc), and adding another one to my list wouldn't be any problem at all :thumbs2:

Personally, the 2 networks I hang out on are Gamesurge & Freenode, but we could easily choose another large one. For those that don't know, the difference in irc networks is generally their rules, and how they are enforced. Most of the large ones are very similar, however, so any of those could be chosen.
For now, I'm going to go ahead and call it as such: Network = EFNet; Channel = #texaschlforum
Efnet is one of the largest open networks. We can change it in the future if we want to, but I'm there now just to see if anyone's actually interested.
If anyone wants to join, go ahead and visit Mibbit, change the "IRC:" to 'Efnet' type in your name in the "Nick:" Box, and type in #texaschlforum for the channel name. I should be there in one form or another. If I don't answer immediately, give me some time, I may actually be doing work-related things :smilelol5:

This way, Charles doesn't have to do anything to host it, and it does not put a strain on his provider. We just use one of the already existing, open, networks.

However, Charles, if you want to put a client on the site, there are web based clients that actually run in the User's browser, and not on the server. Java based, etc. This will present no load to the server other than the client's small initial download. Once it's downloaded, it all runs in the user's machine, not the server.

It could also be done on google wave. It doesn't require any additional software. Although right now it is invitation only. There are lots of invites around. Don't some of the IRC networks have web portals?
