Maine unlicensed concealed carry PASSED today!

Gov. Le Page signed the bill 652 into law this afternoon; it takes effect 90 days after the legislature adjourns - so, probably mid-October a CHL will become optional. Maine has had unlicensed open carry for many, many years; one weird glitch in the law had been that you couldn't have the firearm loaded while in a car. So if you wanted to UOC, you had to be constantly unloading/reloading while entering/exiting your car

-- have to be able to legally own a gun
-- minimum age of 21 (unless active or former military, in which case 18 - Le Page insisted on that)
-- removed requirement to have the handgun unloaded while inside a car

I'm on the board of Gun Owners of Maine, so watched all the inside baseball over the past six months. An amazing amount of work to make this happen, I'm incredulous the finish line has been crossed :anamatedbanana
I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

Congrats to all Mainers!

One more state that Texans can carry while traveling, which is good for us.

One more down.
11 States + DC to go!
Keep calm and carry.

"or"?

How, pray tell, do you drive to Maine passing through NY OR MA?

I was in the Navy with a guy whose had three simultaneous wives. Not always the best idea, particularly when one of the finds out and has a warrant out for your arrest in MA. So when we pulled in to Newport RI and he wanted to visit the latest wife in ME, he had to drive around MA through CT, NY, VT, and NH to get there. And he was an ugly cuss to boot.

If I ever go visit Maine, I'm definitely not driving all the way from Texas.
