Effective September 1

#1

Post by texagun »

This has probably already been discussed, but as a reminder, it is effective September 1, 2009:

Concealed handgun:
HB 2730 removes DPS authority to suspend a concealed handgun license (CHL) for the holder’s failure to display the CHL to a peace officer on demand. It removes associated penalties and suspensions for the failure to display.

I agree. What is the hurt to present your CHL along with your drivers license. If you are like me, you most likely have them both in the same pocket of your wallet. All the officer is going to ask is, where is your weapon? Why would he or she ask to see it. You already have the ok to carry. And by presenting you license, will make them more relaxed. And isn't that what you want after being pulled over for speeding? :tiphat:

The new law does not remove the requirement to display. It simply removes associated penalties and suspensions for the failure to display.

That's really an important point that some folks seem to be overlooking.

Unless I'm missing something without a penalty there is no enforcement, the law has no teeth and is therefore meaningless.
Sorta like the requirment issue CHLs in 60 days (or is it 90?)

HB2003.
OMG, Shari Lewis and Lambchop must be rolling over in their graves!

However, I don't see anything in HB 2003 that indicates what you are stating. HB 2003 was an online harassment bill. No puppets mentioned.

I agree. It seems silly to me, too. Nonetheless, we're still required. Maybe the penalty for not showing will be a berating from the LEO.

Oh, DUH!

Well, just to show how naive I am on some things, I was clueless about rainbow flags until about 6 - 7 years ago.
