CT about to prove registration leads to gun confiscation.

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

The state of Connecticut, after Sandy Hook, passed legislation requiring owners of AR-15's to register them with full contact information, brand of AR-15, serial number, and any unique identifying characteristics. "You can keep your guns, we'll grandfather you in" they promised.

Now, the governor of CT is seriously considering confiscating ALL of these registered AR-15's, ignoring the previous "grandfather" promises.

I could not find the original article in which I read about this, but I believe only 11,389 CT owners registered their AR's. Many people did not.

If this is to pass, there is no idea how CT LEO's would go about seizing their weapons.

I feel bad for our CT 2A friends, but if this egregious confiscation occurs, the NRA/GOA/TSRA will have solid evidence for all to see, that the end game for anti-2A's is to confiscate our firearms. IIRC, NYS also requires AR-15 registration, and that state's compliance numbers were also low.

It looks like the folks in CT are gonna have to use those guns if they want to keep them. If they count on the courts or politicians to save them they're set for a disappointment.

The NRA-ILA's article about this from Monday:

Incrementalism in Action: Anti-Gun Governor Targets Lawfully Registered Firearms for Seizure
https://www.nraila.org/articles/2022121 ... or-seizure

In part...
Readers of this website and other NRA publications knew better, however, as the Association has warned for years of the aforementioned absolutes: that gun control advances incrementally and that firearm registration leads to firearm confiscation.

Following a gubernatorial debate in November, Lamont [Governor Ned Lamont, D-CT] told reporters: “I think those assault-style weapons that are grandfathered should not be grandfathered.” He continued, “They should not be allowed in the state of Connecticut. I think they’re killers.”

Pressed for specifics on how he would go about enforcing his proposal or recovering the 81,849 “assault weapons” registered with the state, Lamont did not provide details. “Start by making them illegal,” he said. “I think that would be a big difference. That is what you start with.”

In other words, without any explanation of how his plan would work or promote public safety, Lamont is proposing to make tens of thousands of state citizens who complied in good faith with the registration requirements into criminals, with their guns summarily declared contraband and subject to seizure. To make matters worse, the authorities would already know who and where those citizens are.

Lamont ludicrously claimed that the grandfathered guns themselves are “killers,” but he provided no evidence that their owners are. He did not cite statistics, or even examples, of lawfully registered “assault weapons” that were later used in crime. Meanwhile, registered or not, semiautomatic long guns of the types banned in Connecticut are rarely used in homicide, as we have noted time and again, including here, here, and here.

The litigation is going to be expensive. The state made a promise and then unilaterally reneged.

It didn't stop NY when they did it.
It didn't stop CA either.
