Our laws reasonably agree that you are free to own a pistol to protect your home, and a rifle and shotgun to hunt. I’m saying we need changes to the law that would prevent unqualified people from having access to military-grade weapons designed for killing multiple adversaries in combat.

If you want to possess a more dangerous weapon, a man-killing weapon, then we should demand that you have a proper license.
We already do, in practice, if not in name. To legally possess military-grade weapons like a real M-16, there is a process that takes months for we mere taxpaying citizens.

Tony may be unaware of what's involved for us to legally purchase an M-16 in accordance with all NFA rules. Perhaps that's because he and his kind get to play by different rules than us. That should change. The restrictions of the Hughes Amendment, et cetera, should be repealed, or they should be applied to Tony and members of his profession. That's just common sense.

On the other hand, perhaps he became aware of NFA at some point during his career as a LEO, and now he's lying through his teeth to attack the Bill of Rights.

It's hard to know which. :headscratch

I call them communists because that is what they are. They are a bigger danger to society than anything else currently on the table of discussion.

Last time I checked, pistols are man-killing than all other military-grade weapons by 100:1. Is he sane person? He is Ok with the pistols but not with military-grade man killing rifles.
Last time I was at the range, my deer hunting rifle can poke a head at 800 yards, 100% of military-grade man-killing AR rifles can't do that.

I did a two day rifle course over Memorial Day weekend. There were 3 Arkansas Deputy Sheriffs in attendance. They said such things as, "I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy." and "When seconds count we're minutes away." They were happy to see regular folks shooting rifles and getting training. Such a stark contrast. On a side note, the deputies spent their own time, and money to attend the class.

It's truly sad to me that a person with such credentials could be so very wrong on this subject.

And as to this quote:
Who can reasonably argue that someone needs a magazine that holds 30 rounds of ammunition for hunting deer?

I would ask who can reasonably argue that hunting in Texas is only about deer? Sure I kill a deer or two every year for the freezer, but MOST of the time when I'm shooting animals its herds of wild hogs. I dare say the same is true for most any rural land owner in Texas. It has become a necessity because of the depredation of or pastures and crops. Giving up my AR for a 4 round bolt action would be just as big a step back as trading in a 4 round bolt action for a muzzle loader. When there are 30 or 40 hogs tearing up your pasture, which would you want?

I'm tired of the naive argument that you don't need a 30 round magazine to hunt "deer." Deer have nothing to do with it.
Do what you say you're gonna do.

Yes, indeed, those types of folks are elitists...in their minds, they deserve nicer things and better lives, than the general "peasant" rabble. Odd how it's always those types pushing socialistic solutions on the masses, now isn't it?

Ever notice how these type of people always try to play up their credentials by claiming how people in their family were in the service? I can tell this disgrace to the Texas Rangers that I have had relatives fight and die in the Revolutionary War so I could keep my right to keep and bear arms. I had uncles who were in WWII, my grandpaw was in Korea, 4 cousins who were in the various services with 3 of them that went to the giant sandbox (1 still active, 1 now a police officer, and 1 now a fireman) and all of them disagree with his stance. My grandpaw would hunt deer with his M1 Garand and if he were still around, I couldn't repeat on this forum his response if you tried to tell him he shouldn't be allowed to hunt with the rifle of his choice.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
There is nothing about hunting mentioned in the 2nd Amendment. The right of the people to keep and bear arms is to keep the people free from tyrants like this elitist.

Also, what does driving a tank into a civilian building and setting the building on fire have to do with anything? Other than pointing out how if the government was left to do as it pleases, this is how the peasants would be treated on a regular basis.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

Depends on who .....uh......what you’re hunting.

The thing is that - hog hunting excepted - these idiots think that I think I would need take a 30-round mag hunting. I find 20-round magazines to be much easier for both range and hunting with an AR. But I probably only own 4 or 5 20-round mags, as opposed to my owning around 30 or 40 30-round mags. Why the imbalance? Because I only need 4 or 5 range/hunting magazines; but on the day that I NEED 30-round magazines, I’m going to need a LOT of them.

The whole collectivist approach to determining what the individual does or does not need is one of the main underpinnings of communist totalitarianism. Having forgotten all the lessons of history (I believe it’s a result of having deliberately dumbed down the population to keep them dependent) which repeatedly tell us that this is a sure path to social failure, people go there without hesitation like foolish moths running straight into the pretty fire.

The more people think like this, the more I need to buy more 30-round magazines.

Mr. Leal seems to have forgotten where the Rangers came from. Maybe he never knew.

I thought Dimitrios Pagourtzis used a shotgun to kill those people at Santa Fe High School.
