As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Gun Registration is Gun Confiscation: 2019

This essay was first written 19 years ago, in 2000. I have expanded, edited, and updated it.

The holy grail of those who wish us disarmed is gun registration. Once your guns are required to be registered, they are, in effect, already confiscated. A little thought will reveal to you why this is so.

Read article this morning where the socialists acknowledged that the expanded background checks they want will require firearm registration in order to work.

From the article:
The holy grail of those who wish us disarmed is gun registration. Once your guns are required to be registered, they are, in effect, already confiscated. A little thought will reveal to you why this is so. The Government will know who has legal possession of each firearm. They will know where the firearm is stored. When physical possession of the gun is desired, they can order you to turn it in. This has happened repeatedly. The historical examples include NAZI Germany, Soviet Russia, Red China, and Cambodia.
How many people know that in Cambodia, 25% of the population was exterminated? In a US population numbers (350 million), that would be the equivalent of 87.5 million people rounded up and killed by the government.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
The founders were not speaking of securing a free state of oppression from other countries. They were putting in place a safe guard to keep the citizens free from oppression from our own government.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

Exactly!

You have to consider the 2nd Amendment (and the rest of the Bill or Rights) in context. We had just proclaimed that people have an obligation to overthrow a tyrannical government, and then fought a long and bloody war to do exactly that. I have no idea how anyone can argue with a straight face that we thought it would then be a great idea to make sure that folks could hunt, or that government run militias would be properly equipped.

The 2nd Amendment is about making sure that people have the means to overthrow a tyrannical government. Its as simple as that.

Consider also that even if the majority of people are willing to go along with King George aka US and state governments, that don’t mean the Second Amendment no longer is valid. Not all the colonists were onboard with the patriots who resisted the tyranny of the king’s government. The revolution was still valid.
