Online Reverse Phone Book
Does anyone know of a free online reverse phone book? The one I used years ago no longer exists and all seem to be fee-based now. I don't use one often enough to subscribe to a service and I'm not giving my credit card info to a company for a per-search fee.

Just google the number. It usually returns with a correct answer.

Google will tell you the area it is associated with, and if its a listed number it will give you details. But alot of unlisted/blocked numbers won't give you much more then city/state/area the number is suppose to be based out of

I've tried Google, but it rarely gives any useful information.

I use whitepages.com. Like so many these days the dependency on the Internet negates the belief in maintaining actual physical documents. Our local libraries had phone books going back to the 1940's and Criss Cross Directories that went back decades. The new powers that be destroyed them all in the name of progress. But, hey, you can check out a video game! My brother tried to convince the city to keep the SW repeater for Civil Defense purposes and was told it was not needed since we have cell phones! Any one remember trying to use Sprint during Allison?Charles L. Cotton wrote:I've tried Google, but it rarely gives any useful information.

Sprint's system went down, it wasn't overloaded. Overloading cell systems is probably a valid concern, though. I don't think there have been any great improvements in tower structure technology that would make them more wind proof? Guy wires are guy wires. They are vulnerable to the wind and flying debris. Not related to cell phones, but I witnessed the 150ft HLP Deep Water Station high line tower collapse during Hurricane Alecia. It was a far more substantial structure than a cell tower. BTW Allison hit in June 2001 not 1995. I'm not even a Ham operator but I'll go out on a limb and say there will be times when radio will be the only communications available, especially for civilians.EEllis wrote:What 20 years ago? I have yet to find a free one worth anything.

Re: Online Reverse Phone Book
Is there one that is inexpensive that has a limited amount of searches rather than pay for each search?

Chas.,
Try safecaller.com. It is not perfect but seems to one of the better free ones. They put upsell ads on your result, but scroll down for more details on your result.
