Seeking Input On Holsters

#1

Post by LonestarCarry »

Hello All,

I’m seeking input on holsters. I’m looking for an outside the waistband holster for my daily carry, a Smith & Wesson, M&P 9C. I’m looking for it to sit up fairly high for concealability, have it hug close to my body, I prefer to carry at 3:00, and I would also like a thumb-break. The thumb break is more about comfort than retention. My gun has an external safety and that little lever digging into my side is no fun. I would be happy with something that has some sort of sweat shield to provide comfort, but can’t find an owb that does. Right now I’ve got a list of 7 contenders. Any thoughts on these, or any suggestions on ones I haven’t seen yet are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have the DeSantis thunb break scabbard, that I carry my M&P full size. It works great, conceals with an untucked shirt, holds my gun high and tight, is comfortable all day long, and had a very minimal break in time.

I use a thumb break from http://www.firearmholster.com for my S&W Shield. It has clips for IWB and slots for OWB and I carry it at 3 o'clock. Fleece material skin side, leather outside, and kydex shell. No complaints in the year I've had it and I can conceal with just a t-shirt.

Man, that Safariland 56 Serpent is one sexy looking piece of equipment. I can tell that it has been specifically molded to adapt for the thumb safety of your model.

That and I am a huge Safariland snob.

If they made it for a G21, I would be putting in my order right now.

I went looking for a thumb break slide and ended up with a Front Line Fast-Draw Belt-Slide Leather Holster. Just got it Saturday so I can't really report on it yet but it seems like a very well constructed holster. Very tight, well molded. Many good reviews.

Actually got mine off Amazon.

http://www.desantisholster.com/SPEED-SCABBARD Model 002BAL7Z0 same w/o thumb break, 3-slot belt slits for vertical or canted carry - both high on belt. It does cover/protect the manual safety on my M&P40C with about 1" of slide heel exposed - muzzle is also covered. I no longer carry IWB - OWB under untucked shirt year round.

I've got the usual old holster drawer. Tried quite a few from friends that aren't in my used holster drawer. For OWB, I have decided that El Paso Saddlery makes my favorite. They can get a bit pricey, but the one I use for my full size 1911 holds it better and more secure than anything else I have tried. And before anyone goes off on me, I fully understand that there are a LOT of holsters I have not tried.
Do what you say you're gonna do.

I cannot recommend this guy highly enough. I will take some pics of my new snap over holster and mag pouch when I get home tonight. Even my wife (who dislikes guns) commented on how great this holster looks. It holds the weapon secure to my body, has a sweat shield for comfort, and importantly for me, is easy to take on and off without removing your belt.

You didn't say what position you carry your DeSantis in, but at 3:00 I can thread my belt into one side of the holster, through the belt loop on my pants, and then out through the other side of the holster. It only allows about 1" of play either direction that way, and is comfortable sitting or standing. JMHO.
