This is the troubling aspect of concealed carry. Imagine the possible result of one guy opening fire in a cafeteria and everybody is packing.

If everyone were packing, someone could stick a barrel in his chest and stop him with no chance of missing.

The possibility of crossfire is one reason people advise taking cover in this kind of situation.

Now you got me thinking about CHL get-togethers in restaurants and such. Do you choose a "designated shooter"? Is that a ridiculous idea? How do LEOs handle it?

A $1,000 dollar stash is not an unreasonable precaution to take. Cash is King in uncertain times. Ask the poor souls who bugged out of Houston and found every ATM machine from here to Dallas empty.

Just a thought.

It's not at all unusual for people to have a thousand in cash for perfectly legal reasons. They might be going to an auction (horses, cars, etc.), or might be going to a gun show the next morning.

I stay too perpetually broke to do it, but my goal is to always keep a month's pay in cash on hand.

This is why discussions like this and practical application of skills in scenario settings is important. It's not just important for one of us CHLs to be on the ball, we all have to be. Every positive outcome will barely get noticed, but when one of us does the incorrect thing, it affects us all, as everyone takes notice and the anti-gunners come a runnin'.

The more scenarios we understand from the legal perspective as well as the tactical, the better prepared we are to handle the situation correctly.

I don't think I would use 00 as a defense load in my shotgun, but either way.... we don't have enough details to know what happened.

Here's my problem with this.. If I had $1000 sitting around for emergency purposes, it wouldn't be laying around where anyone who came by could find it. A robber would almost certainly not find it. I've taken the time to secure and hide it.

However, if I just completed a half-dozen drug deals that evening, I haven't had time to put the cash away anywhere safe.

Even the small "bird" shots (6-9 shot) can be quite effective at close range (0-10 yards). As distances increase.... these become less effective.

I am not recommending them over larger shot sizes (BB through Bucks), but I wouldn't be afraid to engage a threat (at close distance) even with my favorite dove load.

Beyond 30 ft. (or if someone is heavily clothed) I certainly want more weight per pellet.

I use No.4 Buck. Winchester 1300 Defender with 7 in the tube, and four slugs in the buttsock.

It's absolutely as effective at household ranges (max 10 yards) as 00 buckshot, but overpenetration isn't so much of a concern.
