Police try to stop independence voting in Spain

Post by TreyHouston »

Why is this not being talked about? We need to ship the NFL and ANTIFA there to help REAL oppression?

"Hundreds of police armed with truncheons and rubber bullets were sent in from other regions to confiscate ballots and stop the voting, and amateur video showed some officers dragging people out of polling stations by the hair, throwing some down stairs, kicking them and pushing them to the ground. Anguished, frightened screams could be heard"

Isn't Spain supposed to be a democratic state? This is why we have The 2nd amendment. This is also why we shouldn't allow our government disarms us at the polls. The voters in Catalonia were defenseless against the government brutes and had no way to fight back. Without the right to bear arms our right to free elections only goes as far as what the government finds convenient.

Actually , either CBS or ABC national news had a fairly graphic story about this when it began. They were very good at showing all the violence perpetrated by the Police.

I have always kind of thought that most Countries are all about Democracy, freedom of choice and whatnot, until, these rights they crow about threaten the State and its status quo. If California or Texas really were serious about seceding, the US Government probably wouldn't hesitate to use force to prevent this action. Refer to most any Nation, England wasn't about letting Northern Ireland to have its Independence, Spain has been fighting the Basque and etc since the Republic began, Mexico won't let the Maya go or the Yaqui, Russia the Crimea, China with Tibet. We supported the breakup of Yugoslavia, but again guarantee that if Southern Texas wanted to go, like Kosovo did, (which was very important in the Serbian mind), in the former Yugoslavia, the Texas National Guard as well as US Federal Troops would be garrisoned there and preventing this action. Once Soldiers and Law Enforcement are allowed to start thumping people, it is hard to stop. Nations are like people, as long as it doesn't affect them, it is okay to force or condemn others. My take on an early Wednesday morning.
Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. Oversentimentality, oversoftness, washiness, and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people." Teddy Roosevelt"

Both attempted secessions in our history were resisted with force from the pre-existing government. In addition to the attempted secession of the CSA, you had either the successful secession of the Republic of Texas, or the colonies, depending on where you hail from in what is now the United States. Technically, I guess some people could count all 3 as part of "their" history, if they had ancestors living in the colonies circa 1776, and also had ancestors living in the Mexican province of Tejas circa 1834. Those people would have a record of 2 victories and 1 defeat for the region(s) that were attempting to secede.

Non-violent separations of one group from another are the exception, not the norm. It's kind of like divorce in that respect ;-)

Maine separated from Massachusetts, West Virginia from Virginia. I don't think that most of the Country would really mind so much if Texas or California left. Much of the country really believe they would be better off without us.

The real violence would happen if Clear Lake or Kingswood decided to secede from the fascist of Houston.

Those were forming their own states and staying in the Union, though. It primarily affected that state. If a state tried to form their own country and leave the Union entirely, all of a sudden it affects the country and every state in it. I'm personally all for it, but once you start messing with the federal tax revenue generated by the state in question, you're gonna get the attention of every paycheck-drawing loser in Washington.
