It's a sad state of affairs when an officer feels it's necessary to run away from a non-compliant subject who is attacking the officer. Being knocked to the ground could have resulted in the officer being disarmed and killed with his own gun. If you read the article, you will see the numerous factors that made the officer suspicious of his attacker.

That is disturbing. I am surprised he didn't shoot him much sooner. That cop showed much more patience and tolerance that I would expect of a cop.
