Concealed carry holder shoots back, wounds 2 gunmen in Chicago
The license holder was seated in a vehicle about 2:15 p.m. when at least two men came up and started shooting, Chicago police said.

The gunfire hit a 22-year-old man standing outside the man’s car in the 6200 block of South Justine, police said. The concealed carry holder stepped out of the vehicle, took out his own weapon and shot two men.

One of those men was critically wounded with gunshot wounds to his groin and ankles, police said. The 20-year-old was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital

The other alleged shooter was shot in the buttocks and grazed in his arms and head, police said. The 25-year-old’s condition was stabilized at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Since the Chicago Police seem unwilling or unable to stop the violence, perhaps the answer is getting more law abiding citizens armed to handle it.
Of course progressive socialists will think that stopping violence with violence is barbaric, but when normal methods aren’t working something else needs to be done.

I know I will catch flak for this but this is sloppy in the least.
If we carry firearms, we MUST be proficient with them and in their operation.
This could have ended very badly for innocent civilians. Where did those "graze" bullets go? :banghead:
ALWAYS be sure of your target and its background, is how I've been trained.

Taking a sure shot at the torso is the right way.
Blasting away a full magazine until the slide locks back empty is just sloppy and gives a bad name to all of us licensed carriers.

Again, I realize some will disagree but being armed is not about our personal safety only. We must consider public safety as well. We don't want to become murderers of innocent bystanders.
You’re not wrong. However, how many gunfights have you been in? I’ve never been in one so hopefully the training I’ve had and the practice I do will result in better hits to center mass than the citizen in Chicago who most likely hadn’t either. I don’t really want to find out. Sometimes law enforcement officers involved in shootings will have many more misses than hits on target, demonstrating that when bullets fly and adrenaline pumps marksmanship is affected.

I won't give you tons of flak, because I partially agree. However, I take issue with inferring the defender 'blasted away with a full magazine until hitting slide lock', because that wasn't stated in the article (unless there's another source that wasn't cited).

His lack of pristine accuracy may be a symptom of lack of skill/training under duress, but with 2x men actively shooting at him there's a lot of physiological/psychological things coming into play WHILE having to engage multiple threats (assumedly while they are actively shooting at him), WITH sufficient accuracy to keep rounds on target, starting from a position of disadvantage, AND maintaining enough situational awareness to maneuver & not recklessly endanger innocent third parties. I would offer that hitting not one, but transiting between two moving, active threats in the head, arms, groin, & buttocks are all ok (while also conceding that I don't know the distances involved, how many rounds were fired, nor if / how many rounds missed completely). Until someone like John Currera publishes a play by play AAR, I'll have to reserve judgement.

Also, as terrible as it would be for an innocent person to be injured/killed by the defender's lack of accuracy, I take exception to equating it with murder (under Texas law, if the defender had injured an innocent person, it would need to be determined if he acted recklessly. Based on the totality of the circumstances, he may/may not be charged. Arguably he would still have to live with the knowledge that his actions caused injury/death, but that is a matter outside of culpability/murder). Now, the 2x gunmen who reportedly opened fire initially and according to the article DID hit what seems to be an innocent third party in the hip, I can understand that being charged as a criminal act.

The parts I highlighted in blue are where I steadfast agree with you.
