But as a good businessman, he hedged his bets. The Alliance area of Fort Worth contains Alliance Airport, and a lot of other infrastructure, which enables both domestic businesses and those engaged in international business. He didn't want NAFTA, but after it passed, he didn't miss any meals either.

Also, IIRC, he developed the very upscale residential neighborhood of Willow Bend in Plano, TX. I believe other prescient land purchases were along the Dallas North Tollway, as it continues its relentless completion to connect Dallas to the Red River.

SIA
I believe he is/was the biggest land owner in Texas for many years. He has land in east Tex, South Tex, and many places in north Tex. Frito Lay and JC Penny moved to his land in Plano many years ago. Alliance airport was his sons idea and Mr Perot told him to go for it, The speedway was also had the son's involvement. Frisco had a lot of development on land he had owned in the 289 corridor and there is some college moving onto another part soon. He could buy land and sit on it for many years. Better interest than a bank.

Perot was yet another example of media assassination. I remember during his campaign, he addressed a group of black voters, "you people have not gotten a fair shake." Whoops.... because he referred to them as "you people," the media insinuated he was addressing them as some separate, "non-white" group, therefore he was "racist" for using the term, "you people." A few days later, on the front cover of a major news magazine (Time, USN&W, etc.) it said, "Ross Perot: RACIST????" in bright red letters. Then later on, I saw a TV street interview with some black woman saying "oh, noooo, I'm not gonna vote for him, he's racist!!!"

Just leaves me speechless.

It saddens me to see people remember such a great American Patriot in such a narrow light. (especially by those here, who are generally even keeled, conservative thinkers) Mr. Perot's contributions are well ahead of most Americans and he was willing to sacrifice for what he believed in and who he cared for.

Maybe the better memory should be that he showed Trump that he had to run as a R vs ind. Remember that Trump said in the past that he'd considered running as an independent but realized that the 3rd party had no shot, referencing Perot and others.

As bad as bill clinton was, he was 100 times better than mrs clinton would have been. ;-)

Certainly Perot contributed to Clinton winning, but George HW Bush’s “read my lips” failure was the primary cause. If Bush had lead the country like Reagan, Perot probably wouldn’t have been running.

RIP Mr. Perot.
I always wondered whether, if Perot didn't loose his cool, drop out, cool off and get back in the race that year, would he have won. He certainly had momentum until he lost his cool.

I will always remember him as the guy that put up his own money to send aid to POW's, fund POW searches and held direct talks with the Vietnamese Government in attempts to account for Vietnam War MIA's. Not to mention his actions to rescue his employees caught up in the Iranian revolution in 79.

He wasn't perfect, but who is?

RIP Mr Perot. :patriot:
Excellent points.

The media was pretty rough on him. I can understand him loosing his cool.

Mr Perot did not lose his cool, but that is what the rotten media and BIG money in NYC want you to believe. He had a meeting with someone/s up in NYC the day before and when he got home he was visibly shaken. When he left for the office the next morning he told me, " _____ , don't believe what you hear in the news today". Only his family knows for sure who he met with but it was kinda obvious that he was told he would drop out or else. A threat to the family is '"assumed" . A threat to him personally would not have succeeded. He was not an easy/soft target

His daughters wedding was shortly there after. That was as big a show of civilian force as I have seen. He had every available off duty uniformed police officer he could get plus all the private security that was not on duty at the homes. Plus there were plain clothes officers mixed in with the security staff. Previous weddings were not like that. After the wedding he re-entered the race.
I was there an those are the facts as I know them. Draw your own conclusions.

During that campaign I became well acquainted with how slimy and uncouth the media really is. I saw facts twisted, half truths, and stupid stunts pulled by those educated buffoons. Too this day I refuse all contact with the media liars and spinners.
Agreed. Mr. Perot indicated that he dropped out of the race due to very credible threats against his family at his daughters wedding. Wish he had won the race. He was far superior to Bush or the Clintons. Our country would have been a better place today if he won.

I remember Mr. Perot warning this nation about jobs going to Mexico (despite the jokes the news and entertainment industries made out of it). The long haul seems to have proven him correct.

I'm researching the source still but I found another that said Perot actually did actually donate two $2800 checks to the Trump 2020 campaign in March of this year. One for the primary and the second for the general election. edit:.

This source says it Perot Jr that made the above donations. edit: now the link doesn't :banghead:

This week, the nation remembers Ross Perot for his success in business, his two independent White House bids and his no-nonsense, straight Texas talk. His love of country, larger-than-life personality and generosity are all part of his legacy that will live on. But there is another little-known part of the life of Ross Perot that should be told now that he is gone. He was a tireless, but private, supporter of our wounded veterans.

That is one of many. I got to deliver a special vehicle to a veteran amputee in San Antonio once. Then drive back to Dallas in the older Jeep Cherokee that Mr Perot had purchased FROM the vet since he couldn't drive it any more. Even got to take my wife along for the ride. Good memories made possible by a great man.
