Total of 9 souls on board. Looks like weather was IFR with very low ceilings. Sad.

Really sad. He was taking her to a basketball tournament. He was coaching her.

Fog, looks like it hit an LA hill.

Wife learned from a TMZ report.

Helicopter was granted an exception to fly that day. Was the risk really worth it?

If true that his wife learned of his death (or at the least the accident) from TMZ is such sick move by that garbage outlet. There is no decency.

I think there is a greater tendency for Private aircraft to take risks with weather and weight to not disappoint and keep schedules for themselves, customers or friends.

:iagree: Lots of celebrities (and non-celebrity rich folks) die because they ignore weather conditions that restrict commercial aviation.

Music industry has lost a lot of people in aviation crashes.

Technically not true. The helo asked for Special VFR. This is not an exception to flight rules, it is an established procedure. Helos are granted a lot of latitude for flying in marginal conditions because they are helicopters. They can slow down and land wherever. Unfortunately, this pilot chose to press beyond visual and apparently flew into the ground. It is easy to get complacent because after all you are a helo. For the record, I am a helicopter pilot.

I'll be the first to say it, without hesitation. My prayers go out for Kobe and his daughter, and his family, for this tragic accident and loss. A great man has been lost. Let us remember that.

Pilot’s representatives blame the passengers.

Interesting strategy. Blame the person with the most money.

This is media sensationalism for what I'm told is a standard "affirmative defense" filing. Some real lawyer may want to weigh in.

This accident is clearly a case of the pilot exercising very poor judgment and bad Aeronautical Decision Making.

Celebrity types like Kobe don't ever get told no. It is why some of them end up dead from drug over dose or other poor decision making issues. Like flying in a helicopter in the fog.
