Supposedly a weapon capable of one million rounds a minute.

Other than saying "Look, we did it." what's the point? How do you support it? Not the stand/tripod/whatever, the ammo to feed it. What is it useful for? I didn't realize Rube Goldberg also worked in firearms.

I couldn't find any information as to the purpose. I guess it's a novelty to prove it can be done. I didn't even see what caliber cartridges it used on the site that had the video. I didn't do a great deal of research, however.

These are the guys that brought you the 6000 round-per-minute electronically fired 40mm grenade launcher. Their purpose in life seemed to be to get as many rounds downrange as possible. Haven't seen anything new from them for years and the website redirects to https://www.defendtex.com/.

The momentary rate of fire is impressive but until someone can fire one of these things for a solid minute... it's NOT 6000 or 1,000,000 rounds a minute!

Every weapon has a theoretical rate of fire. The 1911's is 85 rounds per minute. You just need an 85 round magazine to achieve it.

We have several weapons where the whole principle is rate of fire. One purpose for them is to put enough lead in the air to intercept an incoming target such as a missile. It is sometimes easier to track a stream of lead into a moving object than trying to adjust a single shot to hit it.

The Phalanx CIWS is one example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phalanx_CIWS.

I'm searching the web right now for a Wilson Elite 85-rounder. :tiphat:

 85RPM ROF = 1911 + 85 round Mag
 1700RPM ROF = (1911 + 20(85 round Mag) + Jerry Miculek
