Jacob Smith, who worked for Cornyn for five years as a deputy legislative director and policy adviser, is taking on the role of deputy policy director for Talarico’s campaign.
My opinion, as an independent, is that the party should be the only one deciding who their candidate is. Primaries should always be closed to anyone who is not a member of the party. Of course, I also believe the party gets to determine who are the members (not just registration but paying dues or whatever). As part of that, the party should pay for the nomination practice, not the state. Whether it is an election, a convention, or some other method, the party is responsible for their nomination practice. That way we do not need to change the registration process and the state has no need to know what party I am in.RoyGBiv wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 12:23 pm However much I despise Cornyn, he keeps giving me new reasons to despise him more.![]()

So Cornyn had a VERY progressive/liberal staffer that has no problem going to work for the far leftist socialist extremist Talarico? Makes one wonder how many other "conservative" senators and congressmen have far left wing staffers. One more reason Cornyn proved the decision to reject him was correct - even with a flawed candidate.RoyGBiv wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 5:19 am A John Cornyn Staffer Pulled a Benedict Arnold Move. Because the democrats and republicans built the system, and they want everyone to believe that the only options are the two they provide?
