Sign to please all?

Post by Broge5 »

I no longer do, but years ago I owned some Taekwondo schools specializing in teaching children. When Texas decided to offer the CHL, I had a parent concerned about having guns around the children.

I now have my CHL, (no Taekwondo schools) and have often wondered what I would do in those same circumstances. Knowing what I know now, I would not want to exclude CHL'ers, yet with the sheep being by far the majority, I can't ignore the concerns however misguided they may be.

I think I may have a solution that pleases both groups, and I wanted to get some thoughts from the forum.

At the time, not knowing any better, I posted a ghostbuster sign. After thinking about it, that may be the perfect option for a business owner. The CHL'ers know better, and the sheep feel better.

Do you think any of the businesses who post random "No Guns" signs may be doing just this?

Well, now I feel a little silly.

Just popped over to the General Gun, Shooting and Equipment Discussion, and see that Taco Cabana is apparently do this.

Well, according to the post in the other forum, Taco Cabana is doing just this with deliberately invalid 30.06 signs.

My personal opinion is that the people who post the invalid signs are not gun friendly. I have always taken it as them not wanting me there.

Why bother posting at all? If there is someone so afraid of guns that they do not want to do business in your store without the posting, do you really want to compromise your principles and beliefs to give in to them?

There is nothing you can do to keep all possible potential customers (or even all current customers) happy in all cases. I recommend taking no stance and leaving all signs off, or taking the stance you believe in (whichever side that might be).

Something like
"The Illegal Carrying of Weapons is forbidden as stated in §46.02 Texas Penal Code."

Edited to add: I agree with srothstein 100% though.

Some kind of "unlicensed possession" language sounds right to me.
It can happen here.

Several years ago, I had to visit a specialty doctor (DO) who had a partner in the same office. After learning he was a avid hunter, I mentioned the "no guns" signage on their front door. He said that it was placed by "some of the women up in the front office to make them feel better." I went ahead and informed him that such was not enforceable for CHL holders and then sarcastically offered that if he really wanted to try to convince the women that such would actually deter someone there to rob them of drugs (supposedly their womens' concern), I would get him the specs and proper verbiage. During several subsequent visits, he never asked. And the original sign remained.

To the posters on this thread,

Nothing personal.

(rant)What is it with Texans and "No Handgun" signs?

Are the majority of Texans stuck in the reconstruction era? Aree most Texans wishing they were Carpetbaggers?

Texas has more signs than any other state, hands down.

I hardly ever see signs when I travel. The ones that stick out were in South Carolina at the airport.

I never see them in Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Indiana.

We should be allowed to pack anywhere LEO can pack.

If a PRIVATE business is open to the PUBLIC then if they ban HANDGUNS thay should be held LIABLE for their patrons safety.

If someone tells you they are uncomfortable with handguns, learn what to tell them.

If a person with XY chromosomes tells you they do not like handguns, trell them thay are emasculated life forms that needs injections of the proper hormone and needs to reapply for a review by the MAN BOARD to get his card back. ANY life form that describes himself as a MAN who does not take protecting himself, his wife, and childern seriously does not deserve to be called a man.

If a woman tells you they are uncomfortable around handguns, ask them whay they have not taken the ultimate step towards ultimate freedom by embracing their RKBA.

Seriously, get over the signs.

I've always looked as the "unlicensed possession" signs as a welcome mat for those of us who are liscensed and as such, they get my patronage every time.

A license to exercise a right. So if I do not have a license, I am illegally exercising a God given right. A sign that reinforces the belief that rights are granted.
