My girlfriend is 18 and they said you have to be 21 to shoot unless she's with a legal guardian. She didn't get to shoot and then they slapped a $7 range fee on her for standing behind me to watch.
Is that correct?
How old do you have to be to shoot at a range?

Slapped a $7.00 range fee on her for being there? I would of found a new place to shoot that day. Where was this?Boma wrote:My girlfriend is 18 and they said you have to be 21 to shoot unless she's with a legal guardian. And you paid it?
I always give merchants a chance to re-think bad choices, but the second they made it clear that (a) she couldn't shoot, and (b) she had to pay a range fee anyway, that would have been the end of my business dealings with them. I'd raise a stink and get back any money I paid if possible. If not, I'd have raised a stink and made it clear they'd get no more of my money.

+1 to all above. At our range 18 is legal adulthood. Under 18 or nonmember has to have a member w/ them. Can be parent, legal guardian, member w/ permission to take them out there. The most often case I see of this is members bring a neighbor kid out to a match to shoot with parents. permission. I guess I could see a big city law suit sissie being afraid her parents might sew if they did not have written permission. As far as the $7.00 No way. If it had been .50 cents to watch I would have told them to go bite a rock & left too.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Sportman's Outlet in Humble, near 1960 and 59.
It was this young girl with brown hair and skinny. She looked high school age.
I didn't know she was getting charged, because we paid afterwards. She didn't tell us about a charge for watching either.
I'm going to get the receipt and call them to make sure that this is their policy and not just her.
I found her to uncaring and rude in an understated way.
I was being nice to her and I was with my girlfriend. After I paid 18 bucks for just me shooting one pistol and for her just watching, I asked her if she knew how much 7.62x39 ammo costed. She said she didn't know and that's all she said. She just went on her merry way after saying that.
I then looked at the price myself behind the counter. I asked her I wanted to buy a box of wolf 7.62. She said she'll ring me up at the register near the door. Then the register was closed or whatever and she handed me the box and said I need to ring up at the other register (where another salesperson was running it).
I'm calling their place tomomorrow to see if there's really a fee for watching; I hope she gets in trouble.

We allow under 18 to shoot only if they are accompanied and supervised by an adult LEGAL parent/guardian .
In today's litigious society it is just not worth the risk.
We seldom get under 18 people asking to shoot without a parent anyway.
