[New Guy--1st post]CHL question--What is faster?

Is it faster to mail the CHL completed application and payment, or submit the application and payment online(I know I wills still have to mail the affadavits and finger prints)?

I have completed my Concealed handgun class and would like to recieve my CHL a soon as possible.

I know I have gone through my whole life without one and a few more days won't make much difference, but I just want to know if one way provides a quicker return than the other.

I don't think either application form is processed faster, but I presume you received an application from the CHL class and have it completed. If so, I wouldn't bother with the web site procedure as it will take several days for you to receive it. Just send in your current application. Remember, you can now send a personal check.

Double check to make sure everything is complete, including all required signatures! Otherwise, you have a guaranteed delay. Also, I strongly suggest sending it by a method that provides proof of delivery, such as Federal Express or certified mail, return receipt requested.

This has given me an idea. I need our instructors to give me a list of common errors and omissions to post as a sticky. I'll do that under a new thread.

DPS will not start processing your application until they have a complete package from you, so I don't think it matters.

I had read somewhere, (I honestly can't recall where) that return receipt applications were placed aside in processing which might cause delay due the to the extra processing. This makes no sense to me since a return receipt is handled simply by a signature that the item was received. Has anyone heard this?

DPS will not start processing your application until they have a complete package from you, so I don't think it matters.

Thanks for that info. Since I have the completed app in my hands already, I'll just run to the post office and sent it out before noon today.

I filled out the app online and paid with a credit card. Then took the class and mailed the packet in.
If anything, I believe it actually SLOWED the process. The only advantage I see to doing it online is that you get your packet from the state with all the info already filled out (typed) and you can use a credit card.
If neither of those things matter to you then I believe you'll have your CHL faster if you go to a turnkey class where they supply the packet, prints and pictures, and then drop it in the mail with your money.

I was curious as to what the online process actually did. So they take your money and sent you a "typed out" app of what you already put into the computer.

I guess I was hoping that an online app would somehow begin the proccess while waiting on the prints and affadavits.

I was a little nervous with some of the people that qualified in their shooting test.

I'm not sure "faster" can be used when discussing a texas CHL app.

Maybe less-slow would be more accurate. I still don't know how NH non-res takes 2 weeks door to door, and texas takes 2 months +.

Nice work. I was nervous as well. Some of my class mates were a little scary on the firing line.
We had two Range Officers though, one to call the course of fire and one to eyeball the students muzzle and finger control.

This one has been good for me too. I am about to come up on renewal. I had wondered the same Q. Because I am soooo computer iginert & intimidated, I was really hoping the answer would be "easiest to go to class & do it all there". Thanks guys.

Our return receipt was completely stamped--Stamped signature, stamped printed name, stamped date. Probably the most mechanized part of the whole process, sigh

Not that the time DPS is taking on some folks apps is excuseable, but think about it on NH: Their non-res license is issued based upon the fact that you have provied them with a copy of a CHL already issued one by your home state.

Of course, the NH resident license is issued just as quickly, and is only $10.
