I'm gonna say its a 1911, maybe even a 90% polymer 1911 since that seems to be Ruger's new marketing gimmick.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

That picture looks pretty official. Yep, I'd say that's a good guess, alright!

Wow! Good scoop, even GOOGLE doesn't know about it :clapping:

It's a very well kept secret. Looks like a LOT of AR for $1995 list. Can't wait to see what the street price is, may have to get one

I think TxD brilliantly embedded the probable truth in there without making it obvious.

My bet: Ruger is entering the AR market with new mechanics that do not use the standard Stoner gas system.

But that's just my uninformed guess...
OMG, Ruger has indeed jumped into the AR15 business. Skiprr, I'm calling you Carnac the Magnificent from now on!!!!!!

The SR-556 is not a big deal.... The really big event for Ruger in 2009 is they decided to make 2,000 Blackhawk revolvers in caliber 44 special.....(yes, I am old and I like wheel guns in old calibers)

Now where is that hermetically sealed mayonnaise jar that Funk and Wagnalls is supposed to have? Maybe TxD has it... ;-)

Interesting move for Ruger. Good looking gun. All the Troy Industries accessories are top notch - seems a welcome departure from typical "cost-cutting" at Ruger. Brings up a few questions in my mind:

1. What is future of the "Mini" series? .... probably no change at all and Ruger will keep making them as long as folks keep buying them ... or does Ruger drop the Mini 14 and come out with a new and improved Mini 30? Plus perhaps add something in .308?

2. Does Ruger's leap into the AR market - complete with 3 very nice 30-round Magpul mags - give anyone hope that at least Ruger feels a new assault weapons ban or mag capacity limitations are not imminent? Or is this just Ruger's opportunistic chance to grab some rampant AR sales before the Feds pull the plug with a new AWB?

3. Flash suppressor on that barrel looks EXACTLY like the one on the Mini 14 Tactical model. I sure hope the barrel itself is better and more accurate. I owned a Mini Tac for about a month and my Bushy M4 shoots groups two-inches tighter at 50 YARDS! At 100 yards it's not even a contest. Needless to say, ACCURACY of this new rifle would be my biggest concern.

4. I'm new to ARs ... is all that chrome lining of the bolt assembly really that much improvement over the hardened mil-spec finish on a standard AR? I understand that chrome/chrome-moly lining in the barrel is very beneficial, but I'm not sure I see/understand the benefits in the bolt assembly

What about the full auto version? Except for dealers we couldn't buy one but still...almost worth the trouble to become a dealer.

Remember the AC556, full auto version of the Mini-14?

Did they make the gas piston system beefy or wimpy? It doesn't look very beefy in the picture.

John Farnam said: "As a rule, gas-piston ARs do not hold up nearly as well as conventional ARs. To add insult to injury, gas-piston ARs are a good deal more expensive than are standard models!"

don't you just know there are US GIs sitting in some God-forsaken desert somewhere right now wishing they had a satellite web uplink they could view on their EO Tech screen?

If I was in charge, I'd buy all those guys over there big-screen plasma TVs with NFL Sunday Ticket and the Playboy Channel :patriot:
