The mobile home had been converted to a makeshift gun range.

I agree, I don't see how this can come out anything other than a problem for us when the antis get a hold of it.

:iagree:

This will be a black eye for us all. But not much we can do about it. Stuff happens. I would still put the crime stats of CHL holders against the general public any day.

Feel bad for the woman and her family.

You are correct about the crime stats for CHLers against even the antis.
Trouble w/ that is they wont tell that story.

This one is not a black eye. It is a real wound to our cause even though he did not use his CHL or instructor status to do the crime.

I'd like to see the gun range from a converted mobile home.

I think Jeff Foxworthy just got some more material. "If you convert your mobile home to a shooting range, you may be a redneck". "rlol"

Maybe we will never know what evil or madness led to this killing.

But here are a couple of counterpoints:

Yesterday, a former Houston police officer was found guilty for the second time in the murder-for-hire of his estranged wife in 1994. His first conviction was overturned on appeal.

Last week, a city council member in Helotes was arrested for the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

As I've said many times, no license, certification, college degree, or sworn oath is a guarantee against evil; and no law can prevent it.

I wondered about this myself........
Both of them being CHL Instructors, I would assume their range was approved by DPS. I would like to see/know what criteria allowed their Trailer/Range to be approved. :rules:

P.S.: When I see a guy go off the deep end this way, who is 61 years old, has a clean criminal record, no history of mental illness or drug or alcohol abuse, I have to suspect Alzheimer's disease or some other form of dementia. Alzheimer's usually kicks in at later ages, but it is not unheard of even in the 50s.

DPS does not approve ranges, now. CHL instructors can establish them themselves.

The only DPS requirement for ranges is that they conform to all local, state, and federal regulations and allow shooting at 15 yards.

I can easily see a trailer being set up as an indoor range. The story says trailer, not mobile home. You can get old truck trailers pretty cheap.

If I were inclined to look for bias, I would say that mentioning the trailer is snobby, as well as irrelevant to the story.

WRONG! - The story says mobile home! Read it again:

"Cook and his wife were both state licensed firearms instructors and taught concealed weapons classes in a mobile home on the couple’s property. The mobile home had been converted to a makeshift gun range.".

I was just wondering as I know that DPS used to have to approve ranges for CHL instruction

And as far as being bias, that was not my intention and as a matter of fact, I live in a Mobile Home ("trailer")myself!
